As secondary education has popularized across the country, the majority of the junior school students can successfully enter the secondary high school to continue their studies. At present, high school education emphasizes the subjective initiative of students in the process of learning, paying attention to train students' ability of autonomous learning and cooperative exploration. These characteristics let the students have more free time to rule, so how to employ time is discretionary. Although the learning environment is beneficial to students' autonomic learning, some students who are not able to make full use of time do not utilize it reasonably, therefore academic procrastination occurred. Serious academic procrastination has many negative influences on individual's physical and mental health, such as strong remorse emotions, guilt, and constant self-denial accompanied by anxiety. With the growth of teenagers, most fresh students of high school have to leave parents and board in high school where they spend most of their high school time. Besides, they are increasingly seeking support from peer relationship. Therefore peer relationship becomes the second most important relationship of high school students in addition to the parent-child relationship. There are a growing number of studies that indicate that friends and peer groups are an important context where academic beliefs and behaviors are socialized. The focus of the current study is to analyze the situation of academic procrastination which has become a complex problem, and to explore the relation between friends' characteristics and academic procrastination. In the meanwhile, this study tries to examine how friends' characteristics affect time management disposition so as to understand the influence of friends' characteristics and time management disposition on the academic procrastination of high school students. This study used a cross-sectional study design. Above all, we explore the relation among the friends' characteristics and time management disposition and academic procrastination, and then explore the role of friends' characteristic and time management disposition on academic procrastination. Using the method of questionnaire, we select 565 high school students from Qingzhou city, Shandong province. The results show that: the mean score of academic procrastination of students in the ordinary high school is higher than the mean score of the students in the key high school, which shows no significant difference; positive friends' characteristic is negatively correlated with academic procrastination significantly; time management disposition is negatively correlated with academic procrastination significantly; time management disposition plays a partial intermediate role between friends' characteristics and academic procrastination.Friends can have an important influence on the behavior and development of adolescents. As one of the environment factors, friends' characteristic is related to procrastination. There are a growing number of studies that indicate that positive friends' characteristics can promote individual's motivation, engagement and achievement while negative friends' characteristics can dampen individual's motivation, engagement and achievement and even lead to external behavior problems over time. Hence, we propose that high school should be the best place to foster high quality friendship of high school students. Therefore, we suggest that high schools set up psychology counseling so as to strengthen students' peer counseling and guide the students to manage the relation between academic studies and quality friendship. Only by these measures can we make students healthy during school life.
