Research On Governance Mechanisms Of American Modern University

Nowadays, modern university system is becoming the focus in educational research field. The United States, a prominent representative country with leading higher education, the university system of it is one of the top topics around the world. At the time of socialist transformation, universities in our country are in the face of both opportunities and challenges. Thus, it is very important to figure out how to grasp those new opportunities and handle those challenges. Compared with American higher education, ours lags behind, which is not only caused by political, economic and historical reasons but also by the faultiness of university system. Therefore, the study of American university system can undoubtedly give us reference to the construction and development of university system in our country.The specific content of this thesis is as followed:In the preface, the author introduced the research background and the reason why the author chooses this topic, defined the concept of the university system, lucubrated relative theories, carved China and world-wide literatures material, and listed research ideas and methods.In the first Chapter, the author introduced the external mechanisms of the higher education system in the U.S, described the relationships among the federal government, the stated governments, the education intermediary organizations and universities in the U.S.In the following chapter, the author showed how the three authorities affect on the higher education system based on three examples. The examples are: how the “Pell Grants” program works, what kind of managements are like of higher education system under the stated governments, and how the CFAT made a contribution to the universities and colleges to help them improve.In chapter ? , the author introduced the internal governance structure of the higher education system in U.S, like the composition of the Trustees, the authority of the president, what kind of roles does the president play, and the structure of the Faulty Senate.In chapter ?, the author made the examples of the trustees of Harvard University and the University of California to explain the leadership of the trustees,and also introduced the management of president by the example of Levin, the president of Yale. Another instance is about Faulty Senate of Virginia University.In chapter ?, based on our nation's existing university internal and external system problems, the author got the enlightment of promoting our nation university system construction and development. For the university internal system, we should handle the relationship between university and government and develop the education intermediary organizations.
