The performance appraisal is one of the most important management tools in modern enterprises. By following scientific and reasonable assessment methods and predetermined assessment criteria, the performance appraisal is to assess the job performance of employees, to help them find out the reasons for inadequate performance, to take corrective measures to improve their performance, and to achieve the ultimate purpose of improving performance of the whole enterprise.At present, there are many problems in the teachers'performance appraisal system implemented by private higher vocational colleges. To name some examples, unclear assessment purposes, lack of communication between leaders and teachers, unreasonable assessment index, inappropriate assessment methods, inadequate feedback mechanisms, having not established incentive mechanisms matched with performance appraisal, and so on. Because of these problems, the assessment turns out to be non-existent, so can not play its expected effect. The performance appraisal index system is the core and carrier of the performance appraisal system, so the core work of the performance appraisal system is to design scientific and reasonable performance appraisal index system according to the specific circumstances of the organization. A scientific, reasonable and effective teachers' performance appraisal system can continue to inspire the enthusiasm of teachers and to create a wonderful performance, to enhance the competitiveness of the school and to prompt the school to achieve its strategic objectives.This paper carries out an empirical analysis for teachers' performance appraisal system of M College, and finds that there are some problems in the teachers'performance appraisal index system implemented by this vocational college. To name some examples, unscientific and unreasonable assessment index, unclear assessment criteria, lack of classification standards for different types of teachers, excessive subjective factors in assessment, insufficient incentives in assessment index. Against these main problems in the teachers' performance appraisal index system of this college, this paper reconstructs the teachers'performance appraisal index system by following the design principles of performance appraisal index system. This system includes:3 first-grade indicators (job performance, work ability, occupational morality and ethics); 7 second-grade indicators (teaching performance and so on); 23 third-grade indicators (teaching workload finished by teachers and so on).
