Education, as a kind of social activity, has always been a hot topic of concern. In this hot topic, the discussion about the essence of education is the focus of scholars at home and abroad. Education is the communication of heart and soul. Its essence is to awake people's inner sleeping nature of goodness, and inspire various potentials and dreams which are obscured and repressed by acquired notions. And that is to enrich the unlimited spiritual space, the unlimited rich personality, the unlimited noble moral character and the unlimited charm of human nature above knowledge and understanding, which can make everyone find their own life meaning, live the life of existence and shine the glow of life. However, it is a pity to have a look at the current status of education. It is common to see the score-first concept, one-sided pursuit of graduation percentage, pressing on students' initiative, killing on students' creativity, cramming method in knowledge, and ignorance of students' humanistic spirit, potential and personality. Coupled with the instrumental rationality becoming rampant and the value rationality becoming lost, the current education has become a victim of the score theory, a mere tool to impart knowledge, a prop that teachers and parents chasing fame and fortune, which is a serious departure from the nature of education. Therefore, reference to the understanding of the true meaning of education by scholars at home and abroad, according to the analysis of the various alienation manifestations of present education true meaning and the induction of influencing factors leading to the alienation of the true meaning of education, the author constructs a kind of true meaning of education which the core is awakening. So that we can promote the current education out of the utilitarian haze as soon as possible and return to the place where the true meaning of education lies.The whole dissertation consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction, including origin, significance and methods of the research. Based on the context of the exam oriented education on the essence of education alienation, the thought of “the education is useless” and the urgent demands of “Internet plus” era on the education reform, and the reasons for these three aspects identified this topic. And then analysis of the existing data through the collection, put forward the topics of theoretical and in practice, as well as using literature research method and qualitative analysis method to carry out this research.In the second part, we comb the understanding about the true meaning of education from the perspective of the Chinese and the western. On the understanding of the true meaning of education, all the thinkers in China and the western almost have the consistent point that the education is about a kind of human' soul education, rather than about a kind of accumulation of intellectual knowledge and culture. They think that what education pursues is wakening all kinds of potential and dreams, knowledge that unlimited spiritual space, the unlimited rich personality of the world, the unlimited noble of moral character and the infinite charm of human nature above the knowledge and understanding, encouraging people to spend a lifetime of health and happiness.The third part is the manifestation and attribution analysis of the alienation of the true meaning of education. The alienation of the true meaning of education is mainly due to three aspects: ignoring the cultivation of students' humanistic spirit, causing the alienation of students' life and ignoring the stimulation and awakening of individual's inner potential. There are three main reasons for the alienation of the true meaning of the education: the rampant pursuit of materialism caused by the development of scientific and technology, the educational alienation caused by the loss of value rationality and the influence of the traditional culture.Based on the situation that the current education deviates from its true meaning, the fourth part reconstructs a kind of education essence which the core is awakening. In order to promote the current education out of the utilitarian haze as soon as possible and return to the place where the true meaning of education lies, we can follow the two ways following. On the one hand, put forward the value orientation of the reconstruction of the true meaning of Education, including focus on the excitation and awakening of the individual's inner potential, emphasis on the establishment of dialogue type relationship between the teacher and the student and the perfect realization of pursuing the meaning of life. On the other hand, clarify the premise of human nature of reconstructing the true meaning of education that humans have the nature of goodness and truth and pursuing a meaningful life.
