| The new curriculum requires that English course should make students learn English in the process of using it rather than only learn texts in a traditional way. English teaching should be gradually close to the students’ life and their professional backgrounds. In this context, an academic viewpoint of life-oriented English teaching comes into being.In order to know about the current situation of life-oriented English teaching in junior middle schools in China, analysis the main reasons and propose some strategy to life-oriented English teaching, this thesis combines with English textbook Go for it, investigating 30 English teachers as well as interviewing 24 students in the junior middle school of Suining County on the basis of the life education theory and the constructivisim theory. The survey results show us some problems of English teaching in junior middle schools. The main problems include that many teachers don’t deeply understand life-oriented English teaching theory and life-oriented resources in textbooks have not been deeply explored. There is a lack of life-oriented language environment, and the teaching evaluation system is not close to life. The main reasons are that schools pay no attention to life-oriented English teaching reform, the teachers’teaching methods are too unitary, and students’study methods are not suitable for them. Aiming at these problems, this thesis puts forward some related strategies to improve life-oriented English teaching in junior middle schools and designs a English course according to text book Go for it. The main strategies are as follows:Schools should pay great attention to the training of life-oriented English reform. Teachers should teach English with the help of multimedia, explore the life-oriented teaching material in and out of class, choose the life-oriented teaching method and adopt the life-oriented teaching evaluation system. The students should learn to induce the life-target in each unit of the text book, study the life teaching material after class, organize interest groups by themselves, and participate in English practice to improve their life-oriented English.The research discovers that the life-oriented English teaching method can effectively improve the English teaching in junior middle school in following four parts:(1)The life-oriented English teaching has not formed a complete system in some areas and school, they still do not realize the importance of it. (2) There are three main reasons for the conduct of life-oriented English teaching, these are the schools,teachers and students. (3) The life-oriented English teaching can set a real life teaching situations for students,which can improve students’ English skills and enhance students’ confidence as well. (4) Life-oriented English teaching can improve students study habits, establish and maintain students’ interest in English learning. |
