As the historical product of special period, women's education in modern China emerged in the late Qing Dynasty, developed in the early Republic of China and flourished after the May 4th Movement. The Huizhou region(which is located in Anhui),which was known as"southeast turmoil" and "state of literature" since ancient times, also kept up with the pace of the development of women's education. For the purpose of showing the development of women's education in Huizhou in modern times, the development characteristics of women's education and its historical influence, this thesis mainly uses the historical analysis, the combination analysis of data and charts, the comparative analysis, the logical analysis and so on.Firstly, this thesis narrates the historical background of modern women's education's rise in Huizhou, and this mainly includes three aspects:the first is regional feature, that is to say, local education is developed.Since the ancient times,Huizhou attaches importance to the education, and also includes women's education, especially the education of a good wife and mother;the second is time factor, that is the promulgation of government 's education policies and the continuous improvement of the system;the third is manpower and material resources, which includes local gentry, and advanced educator, pecuniary aid, active advocacy and personally coaching.Among them, there are some representative figures, such as Xu Chengyao,Tao Xingzhi,Cheng Zongsi,Huang Xingxian,Wang Ruiying and Ni Changyu.Secondly, taking the time as the axis, and this thesis focuses on the development of Huizhou women's education since modern times, which is divided into five stages. The starting stage was from 1905 to 1911,at this time, the women's education began to appear and the women's primary schools around Huizhou started to emerge. As the initial stage of development from 1912 to 1926,the quantity and the scale of women's primary education started to expand, and the secondary normal education started to emerge. The year from 1927 to 1937 was the further development stage, with the promulgation and implementation of the education policy of the Nanjing National Government, the primary and secondary education of women have been greatly developed, and as an auxiliary means of school education, the mass education also began to appear. The special development stage was from 1938 to 1945,due to the special geographical position,Huizhou did not suffer the full invasion of Japanese invaders, but became the small backside of the southeast on the contrary at this period. With the immigration of the southeast coast schools, the women's education in this period has also been developed. And it mainly presented as the increase of the female enrollment, and the smaller distance between men and women. From 1946 to 1949,the development of women's education was mainly reflected in the establishment of Shexian women's normal school, and this period was the afterglow stage.Thirdly, according to the comparison between women's education and men's education in Huizhou, the comparison between the modern women's education in Huizhou and the modern women's education in Anqing, this thesis summarizes some distinctive characteristics of the women's education in Huizhou. And these characteristics mainly reflected as that women's education in Huizhou fell behind the men's education in Huizhou, but the gap between them was narrowing, such as educational aim, course setup and class hour arrangement, number of men and women and so on.Affected by political factors, the modern women's education in Anqing preceded the modern women's education in Huizhou, and this mainly included the staring of girls' school, the development of women's normal education and women's vocational education.Fourthly, this thesis discusses the impacts that the women's edueation have on the women of Huizhou. It mainly includes occupation, marriage and thought. In the aspect of professional, the women who accepted modern education bravely walked out of home and earned a living with their knowledge. But due to the limitations of the times, there was not too many jobs for women, and there were mainly the teacher, the office worker and the nurse;in the aspect of marriage, modern women of Huizhou changed the coward gesture and actively used the law to protect their righrts and interests, like the freedom of marriage, the accusation of domestic violence, the fight for divorcement, the freedom of remarriage;in the aspect of thought,on the one hand, they advocated the pursuit of female self-liberation,this mainly included the prohibition of foot binding, maidservant keeping and female infanticide, and the development of physical education and activities;on the other hand, they forwardly strove for economic and political rights, and actively joined in the social activities, particularly during the war, they all actively contributed a power to the country. Finally, this thesis on the whole makes a comparison between the Huizhou modern women's education and the Huizhou traditional women's education to show the advancement of modern women's education. This mainly reflects in educational aim, content, means and impact. In the aspect of educational aim,Huizhou modern women's education was deeply affected by the traditional education view of a good wife and mother, but it improved continually and approached the female national thought gradually;in the aspect of educational content, modern school education no longer limited to morality and needlework, and developed many aspects of physique and labor;in the aspect of educational means, traditional women's education limited to the family, and this mainly included physical education and intangible cultivation. But in modern times, the women could walk out of home and enter school to accept system of education like men,and it gradually developed the co-education;in the aspect of educational impact, compared with the traditional women's education impact, which included the clan of condensed family and the stabilization of social structure in the ancient society of China, such as education of children, housekeeping, the pursuit of chastity and the promotion of literary prosperity, the development of Huizhou modern women's education impacted on women themselves, and the main areas are as follows:the development of female career diversification, the awakening of female self-consciousness,the pursuit of happy marriage and the liberation of body and spirit.
