The importance of teacher's competence is emphasized in the Professional Standards for Middle School Teachers. Middle school teachers are required to combine all three of the expertise, educational theory and educational practice. The key feature of effective teaching is high-efficiency. Finding the approaches and strategies of realizing efficiency in high school English class remains one of the difficulties in the research of effective teaching. This thesis starts with an analysis of several teaching cases, on the basis of which the author proposes solutions to the problems of effective teaching in high school English class, hoping that the results may benefit the educators and teachers who seek to achieve better effectiveness of English classes.Case study, framed by Effective Teaching Theory, is the main research method adopted in this article. The research aims to study the efficiency and deficiency of the present high school English classes so that corresponding strategies could be found. The author watches a series of factual class teaching records and analyzes the behaviors of some teachers in the class, and then put forward some tentative proposals concerning effective teaching strategies in high school English class, which include elicitation teaching, developmental teaching, effective questioning, and classroom management. It is hoped that the study will shed some light on the research of teaching efficiency and enjoy certain theoretical and practical significance for the English teaching researchers and teachers in high school.
