Aging of population brings great challenge to our public service and social insurance since stepping into an aging society. Although policies and systems for elderly are now mature in China,a comprehensive solution for widowed elderly is still under exploring as most of them may face more severe life adjustment problem and have some specific requirements. To this issue, social work intervention may be an effective way for this problem, which is also proved by plenty of existing research. This paper consists of three main parts: (1) find out what problems they have and what they are actually in need of through a real case; (2) find out the best social work solution according to the problems and see if the result is going well; (3) summarise the case and rethink the whole process.Specifically, this paper focused on the problems a widowed elderly named Lu faced in her life in H Community, Nanjing, and try to help her with some related social work theories and methods. First, the research reviewed and studied the related literature of three aspects: current conditions, social work studies and research from both domestic and worldwide researchers, in order to find out the niche of the existing research and the innovation and significance of this paper. Second, through studying and analysing the real case H, the research tried to point out the life adjustment problems Lu had and some accordance solutions from psychological,physiological and social aspects. Then, the paper discussed the superiority of social work intervention. Finally, we summarised experiences gained from the case study and issues which still lack public attention.To understand the problems of the elderly, explore a way to help and form a comprehensive system, Social work's intervention plays a critical role. Based on the case coming from reality, we could explore some appropriate solutions not only for Lu's problems but also for thousands of other widowed elderly. This research attempted to prove the feasibility and effectiveness of social work intervention in widowed senior citizen life adjustment, put forward various intervention methods and verify the necessity of such intervention.
