Experiment is an important method for students to study scientific knowledge and increase scientific literacy.The development of experimental ability can't do without the effective assessment to experimental ability.Traditional paper and pencil test is difficult to effective evaluation of students' experimental ability,but the performance assessment what has been widely attention can make up for the defects.The rational use of the performance assessment is beneficial to diagnose the real level of students' experimental ability,and it promotes teachers to adjust teaching strategies and develops students' experimental ability.At present,the analysis found that the correlative research mainly concentrates on the performance assessment of science experimental ability in secondary and higher education,but we lack the investigation for performance assessment of pupils' science experimental ability.Primary school students should form the elementary science experimental ability by learning science,so the writer chooses the performance assessment of primary school students' science experimental ability as the theme of this research,looking forward to contributing to science education in primary schools.The research mainly consists of the following five parts.The first part is the presentation aboout the overall design of this investigation,the writer affirms this research's necessity through combining the require of The National Curriculum,and the significance of assessment for teaching,and the problems in the situation of primary school students' science experimental ability's assessment.Later on,the writer defines the related concepts and analyzes the research status about performance assessment of primary school students' science experimental ability at home and abroad,and sets forth the research's purpose,meaning,ideas and method.The second part is the investigation about the situation of primary school students' science experimental ability's assessment.The writer understands the situation of primary school students' science experimental ability's assessment deeply in primary schools through questionnaires and interviews.About three conclusions is concluded that there is a dilemma between the teachers' assessment of the ability of the students' scientific experimental ability and their actions.The teachers' evaluation of elementary school students' scientific experiment ability,the contents are limited,lack of operational and standard;Teachers recognize the ability of local laboratory tests,and they want to know more.The third part is the process of establishing an evaluation index system of performance assessment of primary school students' science experimental ability.The writer understands the concept,categories and production process of the evaluation index system,referencing to the existing evaluation index systems of experimental ability,then with some teachers establishes the evaluation index systems which takes observation ability,operational ability and thinking ability as the primary indicators of performance assessment of primary school students'science experimental ability together.The fourth part is the practical application of the evaluation index system.The writer designed a vitamin C discrimination as the theme of the experimental task,experiment report and corresponding evaluation form on primary school students'science experimental ability of various grades of evaluation results are explained,followed by a practical application in a primary school,and the results are collected,analyzed and reflected.It illustrates the performance assessment can be effectively applied to elementary school students specific scientific experiment ability evaluation activity,and verified the elementary science experiment ability performance assessment index system is feasible,can really judge the students' experiment ability.The fifth part is the summary and reflection.The writer summarizes the main conclusion of this study,puts forward the innovations and analyzes the deficiencies.Finally,the future research directions are proposed.
