In March 2015,the “Reforming Scheme of Chinese Football Development”encouraged local governments to create conditions for professional football clubs, and help them stay in the same city steadily to avoid the clubs migrating with investors frequently. The cities need to have benign football base, football atmosphere, systematic planning and rational development mode. This indicates the direction of the effective interaction between the professional sports clubs and the cities. In this paper,I use the research approach of bibliography, mathematical statistics and expert interviews and select the relevant economic indicators that measure the level of urban economic development, then carry on the regression analysis with the data of Chinese Super League club's athletic performance and the audience number.(1)Professional football clubs and urban economic development affect each other.First of all,the cities provide the conditions for the formation and development of professional sports clubs.Second, the professional football clubs have great influence on the city's economic development, this influence can be divided into direct effect and indirect effect.(2)The clubs of CSL is mainly concentrated in the economically developed cities, and where the city mostly municipalities and provincial capitals. There is a significant positive correlation between the competitive performance of the club and the per capita GDP of the city, the per capita consumption expenditure of urban residents, the per capita disposable income of urban residents, the regional GDP and the savings deposits of urban and rural residents. There are significant positive correlations between the fan attendance and the regional GDP and the balance of savings deposits between urban and rural residents, but with the per capita GDP,per capita consumption expenditure of urban residents, per capita disposable urban residents Income and urban residents Engel coefficientand no significant correlation. This paper proposes the following suggestions:(1)There is a two-way choice between professional football club investors and local government. The investorsshould conduct adequate research of local economic indicators before making decisions and give full consideration to their own financial strength and targets in order to accurately assess the local market capacity and government policy. The local government shouldrationally determine whether to bring in or support professional football club.(2)The local government should put the development of professional football clubs into the overall planning of urban economic development, enhance the city's reputation and brand image, and meet the residents' cultural and recreational needs. The government also should play the role of macro-control and improve the efficiency of public investment.(3)For large cities with two or more professional football clubs, local governments and investors should give full consideration to the layout of the clubs and the distribution of resources in order to play the scale effect of city's professional football clubs.
