The weakness of realizing China’s education modernization lies in countryside.The key of developing countryside education lies in teachers.However,rural schools are still facing challenges of lacking teachers and other problems.And these problems show that village school teacher,as a kind of profession,is of low attractiveness and low professional identity.The professional values of rural teachers directly affect their understanding and recognition of their occupation.And the values perform a important role in one choosing teacher as a job as well as teachers’ professional understanding,professional emotion,working attitude and professional behavior.Studying the professional values helps to understand rural teachers through their individual belief,have a idea of the real thoughts of the village school teachers,and provide some useful information for improving their professional identity and promoting their professional development.This thesis is a qualitative study of a teacher working in a village school for more than 30 years.The research data was obtained through long-term observation and in-depth interviews.The teacher’s career growth track and career experience was sorted out on the basis of collating interviews and long-term observation.After that his professional values were presented from seven dimensions,material remuneration,security and stability,interpersonal relationship,organization and management,career development,social prestige and altruistic sacrifice and the formation cause of the values was clear.And then the study went to the factors that affected the formation of the teacher’s professional values.The study found that he was influenced by his parents and enlightenment teacher,affected by the rural culture,driven by the deficient needs,and after a long practice he formed values of being earnest to his job,being indifferent to fame and profit,deal things for conscience sake and etc.His indifference formed his stick,his ordinary is extraordinary in the eyes of others.However,his educational philosophy and professional goals also affected his professional development.Inspired by his story,this study calls for the implementation of village school teachers supporting plan,meeting their multilevel needs,leading them to update their professional values and find their position,advocates rural teachers to be earnest to their job and indifferent to profit,and encourages them to pursue excellent goals and work for the long-term development of education.
