Along with the New Curriculum Reform turning continuously and deeply,the Chinese educational circle has obtained some achievement about the "Chinese core literacy",the build and usage of language,the development and improvement of thinking,the appreciation and creation of aesthetic,the inheritance and understanding of culture,all of these have been considered the four key elements of the"Chinese core literacy".Therefore,how to improve the students' "Chinese core literacy" has been the research hotspot in the Chinese teaching field,and how to update the reading and writing idea and create an effective way to improve students' reading and writing proficiency has been an emergency issue in our Chinese teaching.Looking at the foreigner countries,there is a new educational idea and teaching method called "Reading and Writing workshop"created by Nancie Atwell has enjoyed great reputation in American form 1990s,its innovative educational idea,rigorous teaching method and the distinct effect have injected new vitality for the American reading and writing teaching,and also been admitted by a lot of American schools and society,then it become the guidepost for many adherents,what's more,it also begin to influence the first language teaching in Japan and China's Hong Kong and Taiwan.This thesis want to provide some enlightenment for our future Chinese reading and writing teaching by introducing the“Reading and Writing workshop".This thesis aim to have a detailed research and discussion about the key point of"Reading and Writing workshop".Firstly,what's the main idea of Nancie Atwell's about the reading and writing core literacy in American English teaching,then what is the connotation and essence of English teaching?Secondly,why Atwell paid so much attention to the classroom environment,what elements a good classroom should be included?Thirdly,how to make teaching material creation and how to select appropriate books for students in "Reading and Writing workshop"?Fourthly,how to improve the students' reading and writing literacy form different kinds of teaching method to the extremity?Fifthly,how to make a comprehension evaluation and diagnose for students,and make their reading and writing literacy more and more deeper.The thinking about these question can have a comprehensive understanding about the outline of "Reading and Writing workshop",and then proclaim its special and outstanding educational value and function to all of us.In this thesis,the writer mainly adopted the document analysis method and the comparison and contrast method to give a comprehensive introduction about the "Reading and Writing workshop",and obtained the following answers.Firstly,form the first language education,Atwell emphasize to explore the true meaning of English form the educational aim sense,the teacher sense,and the student sense;secondly,form the classroom environment,Atwell emphasize the subtle effect of the environment,including the decoration of classroom,the establish of classroom library,and the creation of positive reading and writing atmosphere;thirdly,form the text book selection,Atwell emphasize the important influence of cognitive level for the book selection,then through different ways to select appropriate books for students;forthly,form the specific teaching method,Atwell emphasize the autonomy of students' in reading and writing learning,including the mini-lesson period,the autonomously reading and writing period,and the discussion period;fifthly,form the evaluation of students',Atwell emphasize the incentive function of evaluation,and aim to give students a comprehensive feedback about them form a series of inventory.In order to have a practical experience about the "Reading and Writing workshop",the writer had a try about it with my practical teacher as a student teacher,then obtained some obvious achievement about it,and also demonstrated the maneuverability of the"Reading and Writing workshop" to some degree.Of course,during this process,the writer also experienced some difficulties and have a lot of confuse.Therefore,we still have a lot of work to do if we want to make the idea of "Reading and Writing workshop"become popular in China.The research about the "Reading and Writing workshop" hopes to can make up for gaps in western first language theoretic and practical research,then provide some enlightenment for our Chinese language teaching.Because of the limit of my ability and the objective condition,this thesis just hope that can arouse more study on this research.
