With years of constant developing of new curriculum reforming, English teaching which plays an important role in basic education shall be improved. As one of the most important expressions of English teaching reform, life-oriented English teaching catches more and more people's attention. Traditional English teaching which pays too much attention to exam scores, bookish knowledge and ignores the position of students and student emotional experience is divorced from practical life and such teaching method can be used to fix such problem in a certain extent. However, some educators inadequately understand the connotation and extension of life-oriented English teaching in nowadays practical secondary education and they fail to handle the relationship between English teaching and practical life, which creates barriers to life-oriented English teaching popularizing. Rethinking life-oriented English teaching and seeking for the nature of life-oriented English teaching in secondary education are meaningful to both theory and practice.The paper is divided into five parts including introduction.Introduction introduces the reason of topic proposing and discussing purpose and significance of the study according to current situation of new curriculum concept. Based on related documents at home and abroad, the paper put forward research characteristics and innovation of the study and introduces the research ideas and methods.The first part analyzes connotation, idea and significance of life-oriented English teaching in secondary education which means teaching the students in life-oriented ways according to the characteristics of their mental development. The content of teaching is close to life, the implementation of teaching is based on the knowledge level of students and the purpose of teaching shall not be limited by daily life. Life-oriented English teaching is significant to overcoming the missing of language learning environment,promoting the combination of linguistic meaning and linguistic form learning and removing the barrier between English learning and other subjects.The second part points out the mistakes of nowadays life-oriented English teaching in secondary education including formalization, vulgarization and simplification which make English teaching in secondary education become false-life-oriented,over-life-oriented or non-life-oriented in accordance of existing research and analysis combined with educational practice and survey of the author.The third part seeks for the nature of life-oriented English teaching in secondary education, propose the viewpoint of completely life-oriented teaching and discuss the reasons for proposing complete life-oriented teaching based on teaching practice and the abroad experience in foreign language education. It points out that completely life-oriented teaching shall respect individual life, care daily life and associate school life of students and all of them are indispensable.The forth part puts forward suggestion on optimization of life-oriented English teaching in secondary education. Base on rational analysis of English teaching in secondary education and aim at the problems in current life-oriented English teaching in secondary education, this part proposes some recommendations for improvement of life-oriented English teaching from different aspects including educational concept developing, instructional objective resetting, instructional content optimizing,instructional process designing and instructional evaluation reforming in order to provide an understandable and practicable concepts and methods of classroom instruction for secondary educators in China.
