| The text book is the carrier of teaching,based on which teachers organize the teaching activities and from which the students obtain knowledge,skills,learning strategies.It reflects a country’s policies and regulations,the national curriculum standards and requirements for students’ development,affecting the school education and the talent cultivation.Analysis of text books is the key to choosing a text book.Analysis of text books is the basis of the teaching work.Analysing the text book helps understanding the writing intention of the author and his teaching ideology,helps to master the knowledge structure and contributes to the full implementation of curriculum goals.In this way,teachers can understand the teaching material better and more thoroughly and thus know how to make the best use of the text book.New Standard English is the newly adopted text book in Sichuan Province.This paper analyses and evaluate the NSE text books with reference to the new curriculum standard and teaching material evaluation rules at home and abroad,carrying out two questionnaire survey to study the current situation of application.This paper is aimed at offering some suggestions for editors and writers about revision and for teachers to make better use of it,helping teachers understand the advantages and disadvantages of the teaching material.There are five chapters in total.The first chapter introduces the research background,research purpose and meaning,research contents and methods,as well as the definition of related terms.The second chapter,introduce foreign English teaching materials evaluation research from two aspects.They are the history of text book evaluation and methods used.Then the history of English text book evaluation at home is introduced from four aspects-guiding ideology,evaluation standard,evaluation method and evaluation contents.Finally,it introduces the evaluation standard and methods used in this paper.The third chapter makes macroscopic and microscopic analyses of the text book.The macro analysis consists of the guiding ideology,compiling system and the level of printing.The microscopic analysis involves the knowledge,that is pronunciation,vocabulary,grammar,functions and topics,the language skills(listening,speaking,reading and writing),cultural awareness and values reflected.The fourth chapter makes two questionnaire surveys among the teachers and students in Pixian,and then analyzes the results of the survey.The fifth chapter put forward some advice as well as the deficiency of this study.This paper finds that the NSE is topiccentered and compiled with the Structure Approach and the Functional Approach.The language knowledge and skills in the NSE are up to the requirements in National English Curriculum Standards for general High School.However,there are some problems such as too much contents in Senior One,certain outmoded passages,fragmentary arrangement of grammars,insufficient material for pronunciation and writing training etc. |
