With the development of basic education course reformation in China, Chineseeducation is also exploring and developing. According to the requirements ofcompulsory education curriculum syllabus standard, there could be more than oneChinese Text Books matching with one syllabus, not the same as one Chinese TextBook matching with one syllabus in past years. Nowadays, the Chinese Text Booksare much diversified, thus the construction of Chinese Text Books should comparewith the Language Text Books of the developed countries, learn the merits of them,and keep up with the international development, rather than remain conservative. As aChinese wisdom says “Stones from other hills may serve to polish the jade of thisone”, through comparing with developed countries,“take its director, fill yourselfshort”, which is of importance to the education of Chinese as well as the Chinese TextBooks.For Language Text Books, text Selection is the key factor, the main way topresent the teaching content, and the core part. In this article, a comparative analysisof the text selection was carried out, between the Chinese Text Books and theAmerican Middle School Language Text Books, which was aimed at investigating thecharacteristics and regularities of the construction of the American Language TextBooks. It would play an important role in the construction of our Chinesecharacteristic language text books that communicating, borrowing, and absorbingthese experiences, on the basis of the principle of seek common ground whilereserving differences. Furthermore, the Chinese Text Books for Junior MiddleSchools at Changchun was closed as an example to carry out a comparative study on text selection, with the American Middle School Language Text Books.The text selection of the two text books has their own characteristics,respectively. In this paper, three major aspects was choose to the comparative study:value orientation, focusing on life and political contents. Through the our comparisonof the two text books, we confirmed that the text selection should contain differentvalue orientations, connect with everyday life closely, and focus on the history andpolitics of the country, which lead us to think over the text selection and improve theconstruction of our Chinese middle school text books.Through the comparison of the two text books, we can see the differences in thetext selection of the middle school language text books between China and America,and sparke some self-examinations of text selection of our middle school Chinese textbooks, which can help construct our Chinese Text Books for the middle schools.
