With the rapid development of modern information technology, it has been universally used on all sides of human society, such as politics, economy, military,education and so on. As a tool of cognition, information technology has a great educational function, the use of which can cause a great many changes in education and instruction. The integration of information technology and curriculum is a new research direction and practice field in educational reform, and domestic and foreign scholars have done a lot of theoretical and empirical research in this regard, including the connotation essence, principle ,content, model of the integration of information technology and curriculum, and so on, among which there are few researches on practical application of information technology to a specific subject in different educational environment.Therefore, based on the English subject, this paper investigates the application of information technology in the high school English teaching in western mountainous areas,taking Enshi No.3 senior high school as an example.This research mainly makes an investigation into the current situation of the application of information technology in the English teaching in Enshi No.3 senior high school through questionnaire survey and classroom observation in order to obtain the overall understanding of that of the western mountainous areas. It is shown that both the teachers and students recognize that information technology is extremely beneficial to improve the quality of English teaching and the effect of English learning. Most of the English teachers can use basic information technology to help English teaching, but it is still insufficient in the use of information technology to develop students' information literacy, teaching evaluation, teaching reflection and enhance their teaching ability. In addition, when the teachers apply information technology to teaching English, there still exist several problems as follows: First, too much emphasis can be found on the flashy form of information technology while the actual teaching effects are regrettably not noticeable. Second, some teachers mistakenly put information technology as multimedia technology ; Third, when teaching English, some teachers prefer demonstration to guidance , which results in the lack of thinking and ability training; Fourth, the role of traditional teaching methods is often overlooked by teachers.Based on these problems, the author sorts out a set of effective English teaching and learning strategies to promote the use of information technology in high school English teaching of western mountainous area. For example, first, information technology should be used to innovate English teaching model, such as "Situational teaching" model,"Inquiry teaching" model and "Collaborative learning" model; Second, information technology should be used to develop English Curriculum Resources; Third, information technology should be used to optimize English teaching evaluation; Fourth, information technology should be used to improve teachers' information teaching ability. At the same time, the author applies the above strategies to her English teaching, and verifies the effect of information technology applied to English classroom by means of classroom observation, quizzes and questionnaires. It has been proved that when information technology is applied to English class, its teaching effect, classroom atmosphere and student performance are much better than traditional English teaching.
