Grandparents’ Parenting Style, Parental Rearing Style And Children Problem Behavior

Now more and more grandparents are involved in family education,especially with the release of the "two-child policy".According to the family system theory,each member is interrelated.The grandparents increasingly participate in family education,which will have a certain impact on family atmosphere and parenting ideas.It’s necessary to have a comprehensive and intensive research on the grandparents’ parenting style.A systematic study of grandparents and parental rearing will contribute to the contribution of family system theory.This study investigates and analyzes 312 students in Taiyuan City,examines the relationship between grandparents’ parenting style,parental rearing style and children problem behaviors,and draws the following conclusions:(1)There are gender and grade differences in the problem behaviors of children.The problem behavior of boys are greater than that of girls,and the problem behaviors of fourth grade children is higher than that of fifth grade and sixth grade.(2)Grandmother and mother of the parenting style exist gender and grade differences;grandmother and mother with autocratic way of education to boys is higher than girls.And compared to the fifth and sixth grade children,mothers and grandmothers take more Authoritarian rearing style on fourth grade children;(3)Grandparents’ authoritative rearing style is significantly negative to predict the problem behaviors of children,while authoritarian and indulgent parenting methods are significantly positive to predict children’ problem behaviors;parental authoritative rearing styles are significantly negative to predict children’ problem behavior,while authoritarian and spoiling rearingstyles are significantly positive predict to children’ problem behaviors;(4)The coherence of grandmother’s and parental rearing patterns are significantly negative to predict the problem behaviors of children,while incoherence is significantly positive to predict the problem behavior of children;similarly,the consistency of grandfather’s parenting style with parental rearing patterns is significantly negative to predict the problem behaviors of children,while incoherence is significantly positive to predict the problem behavior of children;(5)The influence of grandparents’ parenting on children problem behavior is mediated by parental rearing style;...
