Objective: To understand the mental health status and its influential factors among freshmen in a medical university in Hebei province,to provide basis for further health education activities.Methods:1 The questionnaire was designed and cluster sampling survey was performed among 5739 undergraduates with the class as the unit in a medical university and a university of science and technology in Hebei Province.The question included Eysenck Personality Questionnaire adults(EPQ),Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90)and the questionnaire self created affecting factors for personality types.2 Epidata3.1 software was used to input data.SPSS21.0 statistical software was used to analyze the data.Methodologies on statistics were descriptive analysis,T-test,analysis of variance,Chi-square test,logistic regression,multiple linear regression and so on.Results:1 The SCL-90 total score of medical university freshmen with an average of 146.60±40.61;964(22.61%)freshmen had got SCL-90 total score>160;799(18.74%)freshmen had got total average score above 2;42(0.98%)freshmen had got total average score above 3;according to any factor score of more than 3,have mental health problems of judgment the standard,543(12.73%)freshmen have mental health problems;most of the mental health problems of freshmen were mild,and the number of freshmen with obsessive-compulsive and interpersonal sensitivity was the most;the positive rate of obsessive-compulsive(8.77%)and interpersonal sensitivity(5.93%)were the highest;2 Medical freshmen all factor scores were lower than the national normof college students(P<0.05);in addition to hostility and phobic anxiety,the other factor scores were higher than youth norm in China(P < 0.01);obsessive-compulsive,interpersonal sensitivity,anxiety,psychotic were higher than non-fresh students(P<0.05),hostility were lower than non-fresh students(P<0.01);obsessive-compulsive,anxiety,phobic anxiety,paranoid were higher than freshmen of science and technology university(P<0.05);hostility was lower than freshmen of science and technology university(P<0.05);somatization,obsessive-compulsive,anxiety,phobic anxiety were higher than freshmen of a science and technology university in the province(P< 0.05);interpersonal sensitivity,depression,hostility,paranoid,psychotic were lower than freshmen of a science and technology university in the province(P<0.01);3 Individual characteristic such as gender,love experience,sleep quality,health care,the extent of their appearance,sense of inferiority,psychological imbalance,and social skills may affect the mental health of freshmen;school environment factors such as majors and ideals are consistent,the organization of mental health education activities,the quality of mental health education activities,high school grades,middle school teacher's teaching level and morality may affect the mental health of freshmen;family environment factors such as the family seat,whether the only child,mother's health,father's health,relationship with family members,the overall evaluation of mother,the overall evaluation of the father may affect the mental health of freshmen;logistics regression analysis showed that the main factors affecting the mental health of college freshmen: gender,love experience,sleep quality,health care,the extent of their appearance,sense of inferiority,psychological imbalance,social skills,high school grades,majors and ideals are consistent,mother's health;4 The correlation analysis of EPQ and SCL-90 showed that neuroticism and psychoticism were significantly positively correlated with total score and individual factor score of SCL-90,while extraversion and lie were significantly negatively correlated with total score and individual factor score;Eysenck personality factors influence on psychological symptoms from strong to weak for depression,interpersonal sensitivity,anxiety,compulsion,hostility,paranoia,psychosis,panic,somatization;neuroticism has a good prediction of all freshmen psychological symptoms.The regression analysis of different psychological symptoms and personality factors showed that neuroticism factor entered the whole regression model,and the value of the partial regression coefficient was highest.Conclusions:1 The mental health status of freshmen in medical college is relatively good,and most of the mental health problems are mild.The main psychological symptoms are obsessive-compulsive and interpersonal sensitivity.Hostility factor scores were low.2 Gender,love experience,sleep quality,health care,the extent of their appearance,sense of inferiority,psychological imbalance,social skills,high school grades,majors and ideals are consistent,mother's health may be the main factors affecting the mental health of freshmen.3 Eysenck personality factors are closely related to mental health and neuroticism can predict psychological symptoms.Personality factor has the greatest influence on depression symptoms.
