The Ethical Dilemma Of Self-determination In Adolescent Social Work Practice

Self-determination of individual is the core value of social work,and also be the main principles which need to be abode by every social workers with no doubt.While it can be regarded as one of the social work techniques,it cause much trouble for social workers as well,due to the ethical dilemma.This topic contains rich meanings in theoretic and realized fields.This study focused on the problem of the ethical dilemma of Self-determination in adolescent social work practice.Firstly,through the literature review,the author got the important theoretical foundation form home and abroad.The study fragment and the research thought was combined the practical experience and based on the theory of Person in Situation and strengths.In accordance with above idea,the author used the deep interview methods to collect the information from the first-line social workers and interns.In the process of interview,trying to intervene the supervision of social workers in the dilemma of self-determination.Though the collection and conclusion,this paper is aiming to find the figures of this kind of ethical dilemma,including figuring out the deep concepts of self-determination and reasons behind it,the main finding of the features of self-determination dilemma lies in the four type,namely: client agree to make the decision while social workers not support;client and social worker both support to selfdetermination;client do not make decision while social workers support and neither the client and social worker agree to self-determination And in this process,the author concluded the results of social work supervision,hoping the research can be a guidance and reference for the social workers,especially who are just attending in the practical performance.Based on the literature research method and interviewing method,the study will focus on the dilemma types,influencing factors and the universal strategy to handle with the problems.And then trying to build up the strategy of practice in order to realize the self-determination.
