English reading is the main tool of information input for the English language learners and it is one of the important learning skills.The new syllabus of high school English treats the ability of obtaining and handling information as one of the abilities that we should put great emphasis on.The stage of Senior High School is a key period for secondary school students to learn English well,but students' reading has improved very slowly.The purpose of this thesis is to explore the training method of English reading strategies which is suitable for high school students,in order to verify whether applying systematic reading strategies training can improve high school students English reading effectively.The following three research questions are to be answered:1.What is the general situation of the use of English reading strategies of high school students?2.Can the training of English reading strategies in senior high school improve students' English reading?3.Can the training of English reading strategies in senior high school improve students' applying awareness of English reading strategies?First of all,the author had 108 secondary school students participated in the questionnaire survey,to know about senior high school students'situation of the use of English reading strategies.6 reading strategies were chosen according to the result of the questionnaire.Then,the author trained the students in experimental class on their English reading strategies for ten weeks.During the experiment,the data was collected,and the data were collected by SPSS16.0 for descriptive statistical analysis and independent sample and the paired sample t-test analysis.Ten students were selected from experimental class to conduct interviews,to inspect the situation of the use of English reading strategies of high school students after the experiment.The main conclusions were as follows:1.The reading strategies usage condition of senior one students was general(average score of 3.072).2.The training of English reading strategies in senior high school can improve students' English reading.3.The training of English reading strategies in senior high school can improve students' applying awareness of English reading strategies.Furthermore,the scientific statistics of the trail results state that the widest improvement of students' capacity of reading comprehension and the awareness of applying reading strategies is undoubtedly feasible so long as teachers of English in senior high schools devote themselves to the study of reading theories,dig into teaching assiduously and innovate boldly.Therefore,English teachers should recognize the importance of reading strategies and carry out English reading strategy teaching actively.
