A Comparison Between American Academic Senate And Chinese Academic Committee Of Research Universities

The development of higher education has become the key of comprehensive national strength along with the improvement of the managerial level of universities in China.Academic is the core of a university.To strengthen and to perfect academic management is an inevitable choice for the development of Universities,therefore how to guarantee the realization of the academic management authority of the scholars has become an urgent problem to be solved.By other's fault,wise men correct their own.The United States is powerful in higher education,and the orderly operation of the Research University bound together health academic committee system.On this above,this paper takes academic senate in American research universities as a model.Firstly,it traces back to the history of American Academic senate.Then according to the ARWU,selecting three public research universities:University of California,Santa Barbara,University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,University of Colorado Boulder and four private research universities:New York University,Columbia University,Duke University and University of Pennsylvania whereas classification of universities.This paper summarizes four characteristics which refer to publish information like detailed and rigorous system design,a comprehensive and clear functional areas,a reasonable and diverse membership and a clear division of committees.Dissecting Academic senate role in academic organizations in universities during three cases followed.Subsequently,the paper outlines the history of China's academic committee,and analyses its current status through thirteen academic senates in domestic research university.Taking Southeast University as an example,it explore practical operation of Academic senate by text analysis and interviews.Finally,giving some suggestions which obtains from studies upwards for the construction of China's Academic senate.
