Since the reform and openness,China has implemented a resolute and step-by-step opening to the outside world, making full use of the markets and resources at the home and abroad, and carry out international trade and economic and technical cooperation with other countries based on mutual benefit and win-win results. After China entered World Trade Organization,China integrated into the international economic cycle actively and China's openness has been expanding, which has greatly promoted the upgrading of industrial structure and rapid economic growth. However, some studies have also found that the income gap between different groups of people is expanding while the expansion of opening-up and the development of foreign trade. One of the specific manifestations is the change in the wage gap between men and women, which is likely to affect our long-term economic growth.Whether the development of foreign trade will cause the gender wage gap to change, and what is the mechanism? It is of theoretical significance to study the influence of foreign trade development on China's gender wage gap and analyze its causes based on the empirical data of the past ten years. At the same time,it has certain practical significance to solve the problems caused by gender wage gap and promote the sustained and healthy development of China's economy.Firstly, this paper summarizes the domestic and foreign scholars'research on the gender wage gap in a country and the causes of gender wage gap.Combining with the theory of gender wage gap, this paper mainly discusses the theory of human capital theory, discrimination economics theory, compensatory wage difference theory and feminist endowment theory. Then, this paper constructs the mathematical model of the gender wage gap which affects the foreign trade, and analyzes the influence of foreign trade on the gender wage gap China's overall and different regions based on the mathematical model. It also expounds the mechanism of China's foreign trade influence on China's gender wage gap since China's accession to the World Trade Organization, and then this paper puts forward the following theoretical assumptions:On the whole, the impact of foreign trade on the gender wage gap in China has a process of expanding and narrowing; From different regions, the positive impact of foreign trade on the wages of women in the eastern region is stronger, followed by the central region, and the weakest impact on the western region.Secondly, when analyzed the overall development foreign trade and the status of China's overall gender wage after China's accession to the WTO,this paper found that although our country has been advocating equality between men and women, but in fact,China's male labor force male and female labor force are still treated differently. When the other conditions are basically the same, the wages of the female labor force are significantly lower than the male labor force, this is mainly due to the gender discrimination in the female labor force. In other words, when seeking labor force, enterprises prefer to choose male labor force instead of female labor force under the same conditions.Thirdly, this paper studies the impact of foreign trade on the gender wage gap of urban residents in China mainly through the screening and calculation of sample size, based on the urban household survey data of China Household Income Survey(CHIP)in 2002,2007 and 2013.The regression analysis was carried out by ordinary least squares method and two stage least squares method.the following conclusions are obtained through empirical research in this paper:First, foreign trade has a significant positive effect on the wages of men and women in our country, and the effect is obviously enhanced from 2002 to 2013.Second,the positive effect of foreign trade on female wages has changed from less than men's wages to greater than men's wages.Third, foreign trade has a significant positive effect on the wages of men and women in eastern and central regions of China, but it has no significant impact on female wages in the western region.Fourth, the impact of foreign trade on the gender wage gap in China has a process of expansion and reduction. Finally,Based on the theoretical and the empirical results, this paper gives the following four suggestions:first, continue to integrate into the international division of labor actively, and accelerate the establishment of trade partnerships with other countries.Second, improve women's skills and educational opportunities.Third, continue to promote gender equality, raise women's wages and reduce gender discrimination.Fourth, promote the coordinated development of the region and accelerate the development of foreign trade in the central and western regions. In this way,I hope to provide our China with ideas for the formulation of relevant policies in the future.
