With the development of globalization,the increasing comprehensive national strength promotes the relationship between China and other countries.English is the bridge and link of international communication.Effective mastery of it is helpful to strengthen international communication and contact.The key to English learning is to understand and feel foreign culture.Over the years,under the pressure of traditional teaching concepts and the pressure of college entrance examination,it is difficult for English teaching to compare cultural teaching with language knowledge and language skills teaching.In the long run,the lack of cultural teaching in the English classroom is not conducive to English learning and daily communication.From the linguistic point of view,language and culture are inseparable as a whole.Language represents different ways of thinking and cultural backgrounds of different nationalities.Therefore,while learning language knowledge and language skills,understanding their cultural background is also an essential part.Cultural consciousness has been regarded as one of the goals of English curriculum for the first time in the new curriculum standards of senior high school and it has also made specific demands on how teachers can achieve the goal of cultural teaching.In teaching,teachers should gradually expand the content and scopes of cultural knowledge according to the students' age,characteristics and cognition.The cultural knowledge of English-speaking countries involved in teaching should be related to students' daily life.Knowledge structure and cognitive level are closely related and they can stimulate students' interest in learning English culture.Recently,it has been clearly requested to develop the core accomplishment of the subject;emphasizing the comprehensive cultivation of students' language ability,cultural consciousness,thinking quality and learning ability;helping students develop their ability of cross-cultural communication and draw on the essence of world culture;creating good conditions for spreading Chinese culture;helping students establish the consciousness of human destiny community and multi-cultural consciousness;deepening the understanding of the culture of the motherland and strengthening cultural self-confidence.The concept of cultural self-confidence is put forward for the first time in culture teaching.In a word,the status and significance of cultural teaching in English teaching is more and more important.The importance of English cultural teaching in senior high schools has also become an important topic in the reform of English curriculum in senior high schools.But in the actual teaching,what is the current situation of cultivation of cultural consciousness? Is cultural self-confidence carried out in English classroom? In this paper,50 teachers and 547 students in 12 high schools,7 cities in Guanzhong area and southern area of Shaanxi province are investigated.A questionnaire survey is conducted to investigate the cultural teaching attitude,the ways to acquire cultural knowledge,the teachers' cultural teaching methods,the present situation of students' application of cultural knowledge,the present situation of native culture and foreign culture and cultural self-confidence in English classroom.According to the results of the questionnaire,this paper analyzes and summarizes the factors that affect the cultural teaching consciousness in senior high school: teachers' cognitive attitude;lack of teachers' background knowledge and English literacy;lack of good cultural awareness training environment in schools;lack of cultural self-confidence.And some advice are presented as follows: improving the comprehensive quality of teachers;optimizing the curriculum structure of normal schools;strengthening teachers' cultural teaching and training;correcting cultural teaching attitude to provide a good cultural learning environment;creating a broad learning platform;calling for the national cultural knowledge transmission and promotion;fulling implementation of cultural confidence cultivation.
