In Taiwan,Higher Education Evaluation Center has been carrying out the Departmental Evaluation since 2006,which lasts five years for one period,in order to ensure the quality of higher education and to improve the quality of departments.Self Evaluation is the most important part of the Departmental Evaluation.The whole process of Self Evaluation can be divided into four stages,that is preparation and design stage,organization stage,implementation stage and the result discussion stage.According to the items given by the Higher Education Evaluation Center,departments should check about the goal of education,the core competence and the curriculum design,teaching and learning assessment,academic and professional performance,student counseling and learning resources,the performance of graduates and overall self improvement mechanism.Finally,departments need to complete the self evaluation report.This issue selects the Institute of Educational Administration in Pingtung University as the case.Through interviews and literature,the author explored the specific situation of self-evaluation in the second cycle assessment.Through the study,it is found that the department set up several working groups to complete different evaluation projects.Several measures of safeguard contribute to the success of self evaluation.They are specification of laws and regulations,conduct propaganda for the key points of the evaluation,supports from each school administrative units and participants,and implementation of self improvement.Self evaluation embodies the spirit of accreditation.The third party organizations rarely intervene in the process,which helps to establish the mechanism of self evaluation.On the basis of summarizing the advantages and disadvantages of self evaluation,this study tries to puts forward some suggestions to the Intramural professional evaluation in the mainland.The suggestions are structuring specific profession target,establishing self-evaluation mechanism inner school,increasingthird party evaluation mechanism and establish a school database system.
