With the deep development of the national basic education curriculum reform,the Ministry of Education issues the "Opinions on Comprehensively Deepening Curriculum Reforms and Implementing the Basic Tasks of cultivation of morality and man " in which the concept of "key competence system" is put forward.The key competence system in geography subject includes four aspects: practical ability,regional cognition,comprehensive thinking and the idea of man and geography.The students' regional cognitive ability can be improved by the research of the cultivation of regional cognitive ability and it can construct the key competence system in geography subject to some extent.The status of cultivation of senior high school students' regional cognitive ability is investigated and analyzed by the method of the questionnaire survey and the observation in class and the basic strategies of cultivation of senior high school students' regional cognitive ability are put forward.Meanwhile,the research is done based on a large amount of literature,the geography textbook(Shandong Education Press)for senior high schools,the theory of constructivism,learning transfer and information processing and the educational practice experience.This paper includes five parts.The first part is the preface.The research background,research purpose,research significance and research methods are mainly discussed.And the research progress of regional geography teaching at home and abroad is also discussed.The second part is the review of regional cognitive ability.At first,the related concepts of regional cognitive ability are explained.Then,the regional cognitive structure is constructed from six aspects.At last,the theoretical basis of the research is introduced..The third part is that the status of cultivation of regional cognitive ability in geography teaching is investigated and analyzed.The methods of questionnaire survey and the observation in class are used to have a detailed understand for the status of cultivationof regional cognitive ability.And the problems of cultivation of regional cognitive ability are summarized and some feasible strategies are presented.The fourth part is the analysis of regional cognitive content at senior high school geography textbooks.And“ soil and water lass and its control for Huangtu plateau”in the third compulsory geography textbook(Shandong Education Press)is seen as an example in which the strategies of the cultivation of regional cognitive ability are used.The fifth part is the conclusion and outlook.The research result and disadvantages are summarized and the future research direction of the cultivation of regional cognitive ability is put forward.
