Cutting from the perspective of environmental history,This paper researches soil salt upon the local society during the period of the republic of china in the north-central Shanxi Province. It includes that the development of soil salt before and after the Republic of China, the spatial distribution and environmental conditions of soil salt, the production transportation and sell of soil salt, soil salt with the local society and the historical destiny of soil salt.Unreasonable system and inconvenient transportation makes people of the north-central Shanxi Province fall into dilemma that salt is not enough to eat. In addition, salinization of land makes that the development of agriculture is difficult relatively. So, local people use saline-alkali soil to brew soil salt, it has become a mean of livelihood. It is such an opportunity, the production of soil salt exists in the stage of Shanxi's history, and gradually grows. Finally, a complete area soil salt is formed in the north-central Shanxi Province; soil salt economics has developed from forced choice to industrial model. It is a distinct band of soil salt's production, covering with large saline. The production zone is consisted of large and small counties, villages. They are distributed among the lacustrine plain and depression of Datong, Xinding, Taiyuan basins. It fully reflects the relationship between local soil salt and natural ecological environment. A group-"yan hu" live in this production zone, they are operating soil salt production in various ways, they can not live without soil salt. " eating soil salt" and "using soil salt" become an ingrained habits, soil salt economics is deeply rooted in this land.During the period of the Republic of China, facing to the official pressure and the invading of external salt, soil salt which is not favorable in congenital conditions does not rapidly decline. Conversely, it has a steady increased state in 1920?1930.What are the reasons? Carefully combing Historical data, we can find that the production principle of Shanxi's—evaporation, filtration, crystallization is easy to learn, and quality of soil salt is no problem. Although it does not taste as good as Lu salt and M eng salt, soil salt is cheap and easy to buy for the major general public who are living in rural areas. During the period of the Republic of China, although soil salt is squeezed by external salt, it still has its own market for special political environment, transport factor, Superiority and so on. With the modernization deepened, soil salt finally not escapes the fate of era and gradually withdraws from people's lives,as the traffic conditions have been greatly improved, Salinisation of land improvement technology has been greatly improved and the salt of the country's policy has been changed.
