Developing rural industry is an important measure to adjust rural industrial structure, excavate resources potential and narrow the gaps between urban and rural districts. It is common at present that rural areas in our country desire transitional development. In the process of industrialization and urbanization, the development of rural industry has been a natural tendency. For one thing, secondary and tertiary industries have made certain progress led by rural elites, for another, the spillover of urban function have brought about the phenomenon that some urban industry being removed to rural areas especially those suburban regions. Rural industry is confronted with many difficulties and challenges though it is closely associated with rural economy and society. For instance, local firms have strong adaptability and affinity with villages but most of them are small and lack innovational dynamics. Those external enterprises possess high production efficiency and management level; however, the degrees of association between firms and villages are relatively low. Furthermore, most external enterprises are energy intensive and highly polluting, which would pose serious environmental pollution and landscape devastation in rural districts. Therefore, under the new historical background and development concept, it is meaningful to reexamine the position and function of rural industry and research the path and pattern that rural industry and village realize harmonious development.Standing on the harmonious relations between rural industry and economy, first of all, methods of literature analysis and history traces were used to catalog the development courses of rural industry from the perspective of "time-space fix". Secondly, the connotation and mechanism of coordinated development between rural industry and economy were analyzed through theoretical research. Based on economic linkage, social integration and environmental harmony, the evaluation index system was also built to estimate the coordination degree. Furthermore, this thesis took Chakou village as an example to conduct empirical analysis on the basis of spot investigation. Last but not least, three coordinated development modes were tentatively proposed to provide some solutions and strategies. This paper's main conclusions are as follows:Firstly, from the prospective of "time-space fix", the development courses of rural industry can be divided into 3 stages since the founding of China, namely the initial stage (1949-1978), the rapid development with restructuring stage (1979-2004) and the stable development stage (2005 and up to now). Each stage was corresponding to different ways of "time-space fix" and the rural industry showed particular features. Secondly, the path connotation of coordinated relations included economic linkage, social integration and environmental harmony between rural industry and rural economy. Economic linkage emphasized the cooperation of firms and villages through supplying production factors, collaborative manufacture and expanding markets. Social integration aimed to make the rural industry benefit the villages. Environmental harmony required that the rural industry should not pollute rural environment or destroy rural landscape. Thirdly, took Chakou village as an example, its coordination degree was preliminary coordination as a whole, the coordination degrees of three rural enterprises were 1.003,0.884 and 1.791, respectively. Influencing factors led to the results differences mainly included the property, scale and business scope of enterprises as well as external environments. Fourthly, as a typical suburban village, the industrial characteristics of Chakou were various types, low level and big potential. Research has proposed some industry development countermeasures. Fifthly, the thesis tried to put forward three coordinated development modes, namely transfer development mode, endogenous development mode and integration development mode.
