Research On The Design Of Contemporary Dongyang Woodcarving Products Under Cultural Narrative

The design of local handcraft reflects the cultural inheritance,thinking habits,customs,spirits and many other aspects of a region;Dongyang Woodcarving,as a significant part of traditional art,embodies profound local cultural implications.However,the globalization after the Reform and Opening-up and the impact of industrialization pushed traditional craftsmanship into an embarrassing situation where its development was hardly possible;as a result,the charm of Dongyang Woodcarving was sealed up,its design and development was bogged down.Faced with such crisis,we shall re-discover and revive the cultural implications of Dongyang Woodcarving from a completely new perspective;now in the era of cultural boom,the emotional,story-telling character of woodcarving crafts may appeal to more customers rather than commodities.Based on the above,this article explores the culture-narrative tone of Dongyang Woodcarving in the following two aspects:First,from the viewpoint of culture,woodcarving carries with it the stories,tradition and courtesy of a certain historical period;it reveals signs of humanism and deserves to be rediscovered and paid attention to.Starting from the culture-narrative tone,this article first summarizes and categorizes the narrative characters of woodcarving,then discusses the evolution of narrating method in modern times,proceeds to the application of its narrative character as combined with modern life.This is the most original part of this article.The other aspect is the study of the technique and material of Dongyang Woodcarving.With regard to its material,this article reviews its historical development and the rationale behind it,and proceed to explore its application in modern times;as to technique,this article focuses on its historical evolution and the impact of new technologies on Dongyang Woodcarving.Studies show that the two aspects of this article is evolving and developing all the time;the parallels with each other,yet at the same time influences each other.This articles takes Dongyang Woodcarving tea sets as an example,uses the principle and methodology of cultural narrative character,refines and innovates Dongyang Woodcarving products in terms of all the elements of narrative character,and promote the sustainable development of Dongyang Woodcarving products.
