Research On Urban Competitiveness Evaluation Of Prefecture-level Cities In Henan Province

With the acceleration of economic globalization and urbanization process,the competition between different countries has replaced the competition between different cities.In such the complex context,how cities to seize opportunities to enhance their competitiveness according to their regional characteristics,local conditions,is an important subject for every city.Henan province,which is close to the developed eastern region and the relatively backward western region,is located in central plains of China.It will be helpful for every city to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses when the competitiveness of cities is scientifically evaluated.It also has great practical significance to promote the coordinated development of urban,enhance the overall level of competition in Henan,even the rise of the central plains economic region and our country.This paper systematically reviewed the current research,then elaborated the content of urban competitiveness.The index system,which was adapted to the urban competitiveness of Henan province,was established.The establishment of the index system was based on the economic level,living standard,scientific and technological talents,environment and infrastructure.The changes of the portion of the total index of 17 prefecture-level cities was detailed analyzed by the method of descriptive statistics.The SPSS 17.0 software was used in this paper and the method of factor analysis was also used to select the evaluation indexes of competitiveness of the cities in Henan province,and the score of every factor was calculated finally.In order to classify every city,the factors of the five level indicators were selected as the variable and the cluster analysis method was used to classify the prefecture-level city.In order to ensure the objective and transparency of the index weight,the scatter degree method was used to determine the five level indicators weights.Then the simple linear evaluation function was used to analysis competitiveness of the cities in Henan province.Finally,the corresponding recommendations were put forward according to conclusions of the empirical analysis.
