Chinese is a fundamental cultural course of secondary vocational schools.It plays an important role in the improvements of cultural literacy of the students.As the supplement and extension of Chinese learning,extracurricular reading is an important part of Chinese learning.It has a significant effect on the humanistic and vocational qualities of the students.However,the fact is that secondary vocational schools attach importance to specialized courses which are instrumental,while neglect cultural courses which are humanistic.Chinese learning and extracurricular reading are neglected,which makes the Chinese teaching staff stuck in embarrassment.From the writer's point of view,the secondary vocational schools in Jilin City,the old northeast industrial base,should not only cultivate the technical workers but also focus on the improvement of the synthetic qualities of the students.And attention should also be paid to the humanistic and cultural qualities,the enlightenment of thinking and the taste of cultivation,which makes the students become qualified talents who are both technical and cultural savvy.Based on the research of the Chinese extracurricular reading of the secondary vocational students of the predecessors,the writer took Jilin School of Mechanic and Industry,her work unit,as the object of study and did the research and investigation of the students' extracurricular reading activities.The introduction of the essay elaborates the purpose of topic selection,significance,researching methods and the relevant literature.The main body of the essay divides into three parts:In Part I,the writer sets forth the importance of Chinese extracurricular reading.With the combination of the specific examples,the writer discusses the relation between extracurricular reading and Chinese learning,and between extracurricular reading and writing.Extracurricular reading plays a crucial role in nourishing human minds,precipitating people's personality,developing human thinking and improving human qualities.National citizen reading is even crucial to the speed of a country's development.In Part II,the writer describes and analyzes the investigation and the cause of formation of the current situation of the secondary vocational school students' extracurricular reading.Through the statistics and analysis of questionnaire survey,it can be seen clearly how the students in Jilin Female School do their extracurricular reading activities.By comparison between boys and girls,the writer starts with social reasons,family reasons,school reasons,psychological reasons and so on to find out the cause of the extracurricular reading deficiency with the combination of statistics.In Part III,the writer studies the strategies of enhancement of extracurricularreading.With the combination of practical Chinese teaching experience,the writer proposes the solution to Chinese teaching,the role of teachers as an example,the development of Chinese learning activities,the innovation of the pattern of assessment,and the creation of an intense Chinese learning environment.Furthermore,the writer highlights the importance of the instruction of reading methods and choices.Finally,to aim at the phenomenon of text reading deficiency of the students in information era,the writer illustrates that the teachers should lead the students to the realization of the advantages and disadvantages of digital reading as well as proper use of it.Also,the writer puts forward a viewpoint that the students should be steered back to traditional paper reading.
