With the continuous development of sports in modern school, especially the use of modern scientific instruments, sports teachers in middle school has been introducing new teaching methods in teaching and making the progress continuously in improving students' physical quality. In recent years, physical quality training represented by functional training got the attention of the professional sports teams, and have achieved good effect in the practice of the professional sports teams. Sports performance improved significantly. In order to improve middle school students' physical quality, enrich the teaching of middle school sports training theory, applying the method of functional training into middle school students' physical quality training has a realistic significance.The paper uses literature method, expert interview method, experimental method and mathematical statistics method to study the effect of functional training for ordinary middle school students' physical quality, so as to provide certain reference for ordinary high school teaching in improving students' physical qualities and high quality to complete all kinds of sports action.The results show that the research test the two groups respectively 10 weeks before and after the training of physical quality index, using T test method to analyze each physical quality index of the experimental group and the control group subjects. The enhancement effect of subjects' physical quality in experimental group is better than the control group. The experimental results show that the functional training can obviously promote the power, flexibility and speed of the middle school students' quality. The impact on the physical quality is remarkable, which is a relatively simple means of training. Functional training can improve the motor ability of middle school students, which shows in the increase of five tests in physical quality index.After extracurricular activities, the control group has only improved a lot in sit and reach, while after 10 weeks core functional training, subjects in the experimental group have increased obviously in sit and reach, standing long jump and the achievement of solid ball throwing and about 50 meters, and 15 meters reverse layup results may also be affected. In the five physical quality test, subjects in the experimental group and control group have big growth differences in sit and reach, and the other four growth difference is also greater.
