Nowadays, the focus on resource and environment issues as well as the major scientific and technological achievements in the development of China has entered a new stage. Therefore, the traditional teaching materials cannot fully meet the needs of the reform and development of the geography subject. At present, geography teaching in middle school should not be confined to the materials or cases in the textbook but should catch the geographical issues in real life. Hot current affairs, as an extramural curriculum resource, have the characteristics of moving with the times, closely integrated with practice and highly concerned. The wide application of it in geography teaching of middle school can not only stimulate students'learning interests but also promote the professional quality of teachers, and finally, it will improve the teaching quality. Thus, geographical hot current affairs are regarded as the living materials of geography teaching.This paper uses the methods of questionnaire survey, literature content analysis, case teaching method, experimental research method,and so on.The purpose of this research is to change the traditional case model in geography class, thus changing the teacher's teaching concept and cultivating students' ability to extract, analyze and explore information in current affairs.Firstly, through collecting the literature, the author makes clear the background and significance of the research. Based on the literature research, the author elaborates the definition of current events and the research situation abroad and in China which lay a theoretical foundation for the practical application of current hot spots in high school geography teaching. Secondly, an investigation on the current situation that geography teachers apply hot spots in teaching is conducted. Through questionnaires, the author gets to know the feasibility and the situation as well as what it means to teachers and the curriculum reform. Thirdly, according to the previous theoretical and practical research, the author comes up with a feasible scheme covering the development of current events and the actual application in every stage. In addition, the problems which should be paid attention to in the teaching practice are also reflected and summarized. Last but not least, a detailed case about current spots is analyzed to prove the feasibility of the application. In order to illustrate the effectiveness of application of current events, the author objectively evaluates the learning results of the students in the experimental class based on the index on the effect evaluation.Finally,this article makes the following conclusion:(1)Application of current affairs hot spot in teaching is feasible. Applying current affairs hot spot to senior high school geography teaching can enrich the content of geography class, stimulate students' learning interest and improve teaching efficiency.(2)This paper puts forward the exploitation procedure of current affairs hot spot that is selecting content, collecting work, selecting principle and integrating work, which provides some ideas for the exploitation of current affairs hot spot.(3)At the same time, under the guide of the new curriculum idea, this paper summed up the application mode of current affairs hot spot, that is construct topic, guide questioning,exchanges and cooperation, common conclude evaluation and reflection, which has a strong practical value.Therefore, as the geography teachers in a new era, should change teaching concepts, choose and implement a timely, appropriate and amount of the current affairs hot spot hot in teaching, create relaxed classroom atmosphere, let students to think actively, explore actively and achieve effective teaching.
