The new curriculum reform has been in full swing in our province, and there are many changes in geography class teaching at high school, such as, teachers’teaching ideas, teaching methods and students’learning attitude and other aspects. The arrival of the new curriculum reform has brought the fresh blood to the high school geography teaching and bring opportunities and challenges to teachers.In order to better adapt and implement the new curriculum reform, the municipal and county level research staff carry out a series of activities, such as push-door class, seminar class, observation class and presentation class, which provide a learning platform for our teachers. We gradually update the curriculum concept, with the new ideas, new teaching aims to guide class teaching. The new curriculum is also very important for the students, there are all kinds of teaching materials. Our province uses Hunan Education edition, which students have interest in. Now in my school geography class becomes a stage for students to participate in classroom activities with high enthusiasm. In the implementation of the new curriculum reform, the reform of geography teaching in senior high school has also show some problems and deep challenges, especially the changes of teachers’teaching behavior. So which kind of geography teaching is effective under the the new curriculum background? How to improve the effectiveness of geography teaching in high school? This is the problem we are facing in geography teaching at high school. The author writes the thesis to solve the above problems in the practice of teaching.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction. This paper mainly introduces the research background and significance.and confirm the main objectives and research methods by making use of a lot of literature to analyze the research status at home and abroad.The second part is about studies on improving the effectiveness of geography teaching in high school which provides a theoretical basis for teaching practice.The third part puts forward the strategy to improve the effectiveness of geography classroom at high school. This part mainly discusses the creation of life situation, story situation, game situation, problem situation and practice situation.The fourth part comes up with the requirements for teachers to improve the effectiveness of geography teaching. These requirements include establishing the idea of quality education, establishing geographical education concept, the all-round development of students, grasping the overall features of geography comprehensive.In the fifth part, from the perspective of teaching practice research, the author proposes the geography teaching effectiveness measures, which have the reference value and promotional value of geography teaching. Practice research mainly includes autonomous cooperation inquiry and the double-base class.
