The principals,as the highest administrative leadership for a school,not only shoulder the much greater responsibilities to guide,to plan and manage the development of the school,but also play a significant role in the development for the teachers and students.Especially in the stage of basic education,such as the primary and secondary schools,there are too many problems to test the principals’ professional thinking,knowledge and abilities,which focus on how to handle the higher educational administrative management,how to grasp the educational rules,and how to achieve the teaching goal efficiently as well.With the development of society and the advancement of basic education reform,the higher standards and requirements are put forward for the principals in primary and secondary education.Therefore,it is the common aspiration to realize the specialization and professionalization,meanwhile,to promote the growth of primary and secondary school principals in the educational field and even the whole society.At present,foreign experts and scholars have already had some extensive and thorough researches for the growth of primary and secondary school principals.Moreover,they also have carried out the experiment in certain aspects including the construction of the theory,the exploration of the laws,the guarantee of the system and the measures of reform,all which have achieved much progress.However,related researches are still in the initial stage in China.For example,the framework of growth stages isn’t definite;the steps of growth factors are not clear;the relevant selection and training management system are not perfect either.Therefore,many problems have limited the principals’ growth of primary and middle schools in China.Based on the empirical researches about the primary and secondary school principals in H City,the Heilongjiang Province,this paper puts forward the theoretical hypothesis of the growth stages of primary and secondary school principals.Firstly,The growth stages are divided into two parts:pre stage and later stage.The former focus on the problems which are "non" to "be" principals,actually being considering a process of"professionalization";the latter solution is from "be" to "good" principals,which is essentially the process of "specialization".Secondly,The growth factors of principals are divided into two parts:individual factors and environmental factors.individual factors involve in the problems about "want to do or not","will or not" and "can or not";environmental factors involve in providing the platform and security to growth.Finally,The growth path are divided into three sorts,that are the practicing reflection orientation,the rational orientation and the cultural ecological orientation.In particular,the growth paths for principals are not single,but are interacting ways.For the individual growth of principals,their own efforts are playing a decisive role;for the group growth of principals,both external training and institutional protection are the most important.On the basis of theoretical exploration,according to the results of the investigation about primary and secondary school principals in H City,Heilongjiang Province,this paper analyses the current principals’ growth situation,putting forward some countermeasures and suggestions about the self development consciousness,the construction of growth community and other related systematic securities in order to promote the growth of primary and secondary school principals in China.
