The Spatial Distribution Characteristics Of Floating Population In Jiangsu Province And Its Relationship With Economic Development

Since the reform and opening up, with the deepening of regional relations,population mobility has become a social norm in China. The new population group promotes the process of social and economic development and urbanization in our country on one hand,and it also affects China's regional development planning,the government social management and public services on the other hand. As an important economic core of Yangtze River delta, the economy in Jiangsu province is among the top of national economy with radical changes. At the same time due to the drive of the economy,the number and scale of floating population is astonishing. In order to promote the coordinated development of the economy and the population in Jiangsu province,it is necessary to further study the relationship between the economy and the population.Based on the data of the recent two population censuses, the floating population in Jiangsu province is analyzed at county level. With the help of such methods as general and spatial statistical methods, I explore firstly the spatial distribution differences of the different floating populations. The results suggest that: (1) The inter-and intra-provincial floating population has both similarities and significant differences in demographic and socio-economic characteristics; (2) The spatial distribution of floating population is centralized,but the spatial imbalance of intra-provincial floating population is weak. The differences within the three regions are the main factor influencing the spatial distribution differences of intra-provincial population and the differences between the regions are the main cause of spatial distribution difference of inter provincial floating population. As to the center of gravity, the two groups of floating population are all moving towards the southeast in the ten years, with differences in distance and velocity. (3) As the overall spatial pattern is concerned, the degree of agglomeration in inter-provincial floating population is much higher than that of intra-provincial floating population in ten years; The hotspot of intra-provincial floating population has always been widely distributed in the Southern Jiangsu, and the cold spot is always located in central and northern Jiangsu, with the pattern of north-high and south-low. While the cold and hotspots of inter-provincial population are distributed in accordance with the northwest-southeast pattern level, the result of variation function .analysis also shows that spatial differences in inter-provincial population is constantly increasing in ten years. The degrees of agglomeration in Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Changzhou areas are lower than that in places like Suzhou, Wuxi,and the spatial discrepancy of intra-province floating population in this decade is gradually narrowing, equalization obviously.Secondly, taking economic level, economic structure, economic-oriented,economic and social security, income and consumption level, level of urbanization and employment aspects as the selected indicators of economic development the author uses factor analysis method and production function model of floating population to explore the relationship between economy and the floating population. The results indicate that:(1) The volume of intra-provincial floating population depends largely on social security and external economic factors of, while the volume of inter provincial migrants depend on economic development factor; (2) The contribution of inter-provincial floating population to the economic output in Jiangsu province is larger than that of intra-provincial floating population from human capital perspective. By analyzing the relationship between economy and population, some suggestions are given from industrial restructuring, reform of household registration system, talent management,and system construction in order to promote the coordinated development of floating population and economy.
