As the quintessence of foreign literature, the foreign poetry manifests the historical development, social landscape, humanistic connotation,way of thinking and aesthetic psychology of all nations in the world with its refined words, touching melody, fancy imagination, passionate feelings, rational thought, rich writing techniques and various writing style to show the language and cultural features of different nations. It is an important constituent part of the Chinese teaching in middle schools of reading and learning foreign poetries, is a way of constructing the students'Chinese knowledge structure, is a window to broaden the students' cultural horizon, and is an important way of enhancing the students' ability of text understanding and literature appreciation,and also for them to promote their literature accomplishment and aesthetic standards.However, during the Chinese teaching process in middles schools, the current teaching situation of foreign poetry is not good. Though it is definitely required in the course target for the students to read excellent Chinese and foreign literature works to comprehensively promote the students' Chinese accomplishment, specific course objectives and teaching suggestions have not been proposed, there is no definite target and way for the implementing of the teaching of foreign poetry. Therefore, with the using of the High School Chinese Compulsory And Elective Teaching Material of Jiangsu Education Edition and Middle School Chinese Teaching Material of PEP Edition in the city of Nanjing,and coming into the teaching frontline, this article aims at discovering and analyzing the main problems in teaching material's compiling and practical teaching of foreign poetry, to seek for the roots behind the problems and propose some certain compiling suggestions and teaching strategies, hoping to promote the teaching practice of foreign poetry.The main body of this article is formed of three chapters. In chapter one, it analyzes the connotation, type, characteristic and Chinese teaching value of foreign poetry in middle school Chinese materials, making a whole grasp of foreign poetry from the theoretical level. In chapter two, it systemizes the compiling condition of the teaching materials, surveys the current teaching condition, and deeply analyzes the problems and reasons in the compiling of the teaching materials and teaching practice, and proposes some suggestions on the compiling of the teaching materials. In the last chapter, aiming at the problems in the teaching practice of foreign poetry, it proposes corresponding teaching strategies, including the formulation of teaching objectives, the confirmation of teaching contents and the choice of teaching methods, and using specific contents to implement the above teaching strategies through text interpretation and teaching design. In the epilogue part, it sums up all the contents of the article, generalizes the compiling suggestions and teaching strategies, again confirming the unique teaching significance of foreign poetry.
