Kindergarten Large Class Reading Area Created The Status Quo Study

As people are paying increasing attention to early reading education,more and more kindergartens have set special reading area for children's early reading in the classrooms.Reading areas play very important role in early reading education.Then here also come some questions in what situations are the kindergartens reading areas at present,what are the problems there,and what are the influence elements on their effects.Such research methods as questionnaire survey,observation and interview are adopted in the thesis for the research on the establishment of the kindergartens reading areas.The author has selected 10 different types of kindergartens in Nanjing City for the wide investigation over the current status of their reading areas.In the process,spot observation is conducted in two senior classes,and the teachers and all the children in the classes are interviewed.The observation is focused on the actual reading conditions in the reading areas,and the interview mainly concentrates on what the children think and feel,so as to analyze the current status of the reading areas of top classes in kindergarten from the children's perspectives,discover the actual problems,explore the elements influencing the effects of the reading areas and provide corresponding proposals.The research shows that some productions have been made in establishing reading areas in the top classes of kindergarten.First,in the environment of the reading areas,the condition of lighting,the equipments of reading infrastructure and utilizing of metope environmental color are quite suitable for physical and mental characteristics of the children.Next,there are plentiful and a wide range of reading materials in the zones,mainly led by the books on science and stories.And then,in choosing reading materials,most teachers fully understand that we should main according to the mental characteristics and reading interest of the children,and a variety of factors.Fourth,in the time for reading,teachers arrange certain independent reading time for children.Some problems also exist in these reading areas.First,the problems can be seen from the simple design of the reading areas which is hard to keep a quiet environment and suitable reading space.Second,the reading materials in the zones are basically at a low quality level with a low rate of selection,and that has caused much waste of books.Third,the books cannot be put in order promptly and cannot be renewed on time,making them can hardly stimulate children's reading interest and motivation.Fourth,there is not a planning time arrangement for reading,and it is hard to ensure the effective time for reading.And last,there lacks sufficient attention from the teachers to the reading areas,and the limited attention is paid mainly to reading rules,instead of effective reading guidance.Such factors have been drawn from the research on the effects of the reading areas:the teachers'inadequate emphasis on the importance of the reading areas;the teachers' lacking of guidance in parents' choosing reading materials;the teachers'scientific understanding in arrangement of reading time is inadequate;the inadequate support for the children in their material demands.Based on the problems above,the author has also raised some corresponding proposals:improving the relevant policies' studying in establishing reading areas,such as Kindergarten Education Guidelines;being more suitablility in choosing reading materials;making sure a timely management and maintenance of reading materials and making a more planning schedule for reading.
