Local culture is a collection of a regional spiritual and material civilization,which is formed through the accumulation of long-term historical development. With wide-ranging contents and various forms, it has the function of Chinese language teaching and is an available natural curriculum resource. According to the need of Chinese teaching, teachers should integrate the local culture into routine teaching activities, guide students in establishing a notion of extensive Chinese and absorbing richer Chinese nutrition from the natural and social environment. This thesis discusses and analyzes the application of local culture into Chinese language teaching in primary middle schools in Huai’an City. In the chapter of introduction it makes a brief introduction of the local culture of the city and the domestic current situation of the study of local culture. The main body part of the thesis consists of the following three chapters:First, the local culture of Huai’an City and its significance in Chinese language teaching; this chapter summarizes the connotation and characteristics of the provincialism in Huai’an. Chinese course has the function of cultural inheritance, and the local culture enriches the resources of Chinese language teaching, extends Chinese language teaching thought and diversifies the teaching methods. Students’ Chinese sophistication gets improved by being exposed to local culture; teacher’s role will be changed by discovering the local culture; the Chinese language class will be changed by relying on the local culture.Second, based on the example of the local culture being applied into the Chinese language teaching in primary middle schools, this chapter makes a survey and study of the knowledge of the local culture of the students in the main city district of Huai’an. The survey is made from the following six aspects: the favorable orientation towards local culture, the knowledge of local culture; the necessity and effect of the application of local culture into the teaching in primary middle schools; the reasons for and ways of acquiring local culture; the situation of the application of local culture into Chinese language teaching and teachers’ guiding attitudes towards local culture;the suggestions of the native teachers of Chinese language on the application of local culture into the teaching in primary middle schools.Third, the practical strategies of applying the local culture of Huai’an into the teaching of Chinese language in primary schools; there are a great variety of methods for teachers to take. This chapter makes a discussion of class teaching including method and unscheduled teaching including method.Class teaching including method mainly comprises text teaching, reading teaching and composition teaching.Unscheduled teaching including mainly comprises exercising, travelling and researching. Applying the local culture of Huai’an into the teaching of Chinese language in primary schools mainly comprises the following aspects: writing guide speeches on the scenic spots of the city, designing advertising slogans for the local products, writing awarding speech for the local celebrities, instructing students to compile class journal on local culture.
