As an important course in cultivating the consciousness of citizenship and influencing the formation of students' views of history and world outlook, history teaching in middle school has constantly received high attention in Curriculum Reform.Due to the direct influence of the educational ideal and materials development on the final presentation of the teaching contents, and the differences in ideas, history and so on between Mainland China and Hongkong, there are some differences in their materials. The Revolution of 1911 is a significantly historical event, which directly affects the development of Chinese history. Therefore, this thesis selects the part of The Revolution of 1911 from the textbooks of Mainland China and Hongkong as the content to compare the history textbooks in senior high school of the two places. The compared objects in this thesis are History and New Horizons World History which are selected from the senior high school textbook published by People's Education Press in Mainland China and the textbook published by Hongkong Educational Publishing Company in Hongkong, respectively.Through comparing the differences in the ways of contents presentation, the application of historical materials and the organization of the problems of the two textbooks, the thesis finds the differences and the advantages and disadvantages of the two textbooks from Mainland China and Hongkong, and analyzes the reasons for these differences. Finally, the author gives some suggestions based on learning from others, strong points and closing the gap,and expects the materials development in history textbooks of China could be more perfect. The textbook chosen in Hongkong belongs to the category of world history in Hongkong. And there are two factors for selecting it as the research object.Firstly,The Revolution of 1911 in the world history is an independent content as the topic"Modernization and Transformation of China".There are much more abundant comparison contents by making it as the object in that the contents it included are much more plentiful.Secondly, the main purpose of the Curriculum Standard of "History Section" in Hongkong is to cultivate students' analytical skills, historical thinking and the sense of global citizenship.Putting Chinese history under the views of the world, which accords with the goal of "Cultivating learners'historical thinking and abilities to solve problems, and forming an open sense of the world" in current History Curriculum Reform in Mainland China. This thesis makes The Revolution of 191 las the starting point, and compares the contents such as the organization of the courses in Mainland China and Hongkong. At last,it comes into a conclusion that it will enlarge students' historical horizons and thus clearly understand the historical positioning of China in the world. The thesis includes three parts as follows:The first part:the presentation of the differences of The Revolution of 1911 in history textbooks in senior high school in Mainland China and Hongkong. It finds their own features and differences by comparing four aspects:the whole structure of the textbooks, the presentation of the contents, the application of historical materials and the design of the problems. The second part:the analysis of the reasons of the differences in presenting The Revolution of 1911 in history textbooks in senior high school in Mainland China and Hongkong. The final differences in contents presentation of the two textbooks are caused by the differences in history and Curriculum Standard of Mainland China and Hongkong. The third part:the implications of the presentation of The Revolution of 1911 in history textbooks in senior high school in Mainland China and Hongkong. It suggests that it is necessary to have a broad historical vision and focus on cultivating students'abilities to learn history. In the conclusion part, the thesis concludes the differences of textbooks between Hongkong and Mainland China, reasons and the implications for materials development in Mainland China.
