Using a panel dataset of two-digit manufacturing industries by city during the period 2000-2012,based on NEG(New Economic Geography)theory, analyzing the distribution and evolution characteristics of spatial pattern.Based on a panel dataset of two-digit manufacturing industries by 26 cities during the period 2005-2012,this paper makes an empirical study of main influence factors of industrial agglomeration and its economic effect in the middle reaches of Yangtze River and establishes reasonable regional policy.(1)The spatial pattern and evolution characteristics of manufacturing industries in the middle reaches of Yangtze River during the period 2000-2012.The result shows that Manufacturing gravity centers are located in Xianning.Manufacturing industries concentrate on some cities in the north of the region and stretch toward to north. The spatial pattern of Manufacturing industries stretches along two urban belts. One belt connects Xiangyang,Yichang,Yueyang,Changsha,Zhuzhou and Hengyang, the other one starts from Xiangyang to Nanchang by way of Jingmen,Wuhan,Huangshi and Jiujiang. These two belts respectively connect Wuhan Urban Circle with Changsha,Zhuzhou and Xiangtan Urban Agglomeration,Wuhan Urban Circle with clusters around Poyang Lake.Two-digit Manufacturing industries distribute along four axes as east-west,north-south,northeast,northwest,concentration and agglomeration, concentration and dispersion are coexisting.(2)The research of influence factors of industrial agglomeration.Using a panel of manufacturing industries by 26 cities during the period 2005-2012.Selecting 7 indicators including Home Market Potential,Per GDP,Industrial externality,Human Capital, the Government's Participating in Economy,Transport, using the method of Individual Fixed effect model and PCSE(cross-section weights)to research some factors that affecting industrial agglomeration. The result indicates that the Home Market Effect is also one of the important mechanism of industrial agglomeration. There is a positive correlation between HME and manufacturing agglomeration.Consumer purchasing power measured by Per GDP plays an important role in manufacturing agglomeration.Industrial externality and Human capital have a positive relation with manufacturing agglomeration.FDI and The host government impact positively on region manufacturing agglomeration.(3)The study of economic effect of industrial agglomeration?Using a panel of manufacturing industries by 26 cities during the period 2005-2012.Selecting 8 indicators including AGG,Per Capital Investment,Per highway mileage,Per Fiscal Expenditure,Per FDI,Per Human Capital,Per GDP with one period lag,AGG&Per GDP with one period lag, using the method of Individual Fixed effect model and PCSE(cross-section weights)to research agglomeration effects on regional growth. The results show that industrial agglomeration has a positive effect on regional economic growth. Then Per highway mileage,Per Capital Investment,Per Fiscal Expenditure,Per FDI.Per Capital Investment has a negative effect on economic growth.Due to disparity in educating investment among cities, resulting in the disparity quality of labor force and forming conmmunication barrier of labors. The Per Capital Investment factor inherits economic growth as the increase of Per Capital Investment raises the cost.
