The middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration is made up of 3 provincial urban agglomerations which break the shackles of provincial division and get together to be a large urban agglomeration. They are Wuhan urban agglomeration, changsha- Zhuzhou- Xėangtan urban agglomeration and urban agglomeration around Poyang Lake. The middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration has changed the fact that the large urban agglomerations only exist in eastern parts of China. It also has great historical significance to Chinese industrial structure adjustment and upgrading. In order to achieve balanced regional development, we must understand the differences that exist in the regional economy. Based on regional economic disparity perspective, firstly, this paper has reviewed and summarized the theories and research methods about the regional economic differences. Secondly, through the comparative analysis, we study the economic environment and characteristics of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration. Thirdly, we use standard deviation, coefficient of variation and Theil index to measure the total and inter-regional economic disparities from 2006 to 2015. And then, we use fixed effects model to analysis the influence factors for economic growth to find the main course which leads to regional disparity. We find that the abusolute disparity has extended but the relative disparity shows more and more stable. The Theil index indicates the disparity between the three urban agglomerations is the main diffence. The fixed effects model also shows the factors that make the regional economic disparity from strong to weak are as following: fixed assets investment, open economic, human resourse, infrastructure and research spending. The coefficient of industrial structure is negative, which means the industrial level in Yangtze River urban agglomeration is relatively poor. We suggest that we should develop the multiple center cities structure and upgrade our industries to reduce the disparity in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration.
