Entrepreneurial activities play an irreplaceable role in the process of economic development. The high risk and high failure rate of entrepreneurship make the study of entrepreneurship important theoretical and practical significance.Previous studies have found that entrepreneur are the core strength of entrepreneurial activities, and their previous experience has a subtle impact on the entrepreneurial process, but there are contradictions on this issue about the relationship between the previous experience and the results of entrepreneurial activities in the existing researches, and, the specific path of the role still needs further clarity. This study, from the perspective of risk management, introduces internal control as an intermediary variable, trying to reveal mechanism between the previous experience, internal control and new business performance.Based on the idea of the echelon theory and the frame model, this study takes the previous experience as the background characteristic of the entrepreneur as the independent variable, the design and implementation of the internal control as the behavior choice of the entrepreneur in the entrepreneurial process as the mediation variable and the performance of the entrepreneurial output as the dependent variable. These three variables are incorporated into an analytic framework and constitute the theoretical model of this study.First of all, based on the theory of human capital that the entrepreneur's previous experience contains a wealth of knowledge and skills, the more investment in human resources, the more conducive to the growth of new start-up;and experience learning theory further argues that the entrepreneur's previous experience affects the follow-up actions through the process of consciousness transformation and action transformation.Secondly, entrepreneurship is highly risky, and the essence of internal control is the management of entrepreneurial risk to promote business growth.According to internal control theory, comprehensive risk management includes five elements: control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information and communication and monitoring.Based on these theories and related research literature, this research explores the influence mechanism of previous experience and internal control on the performance of entrepreneurial enterprises, and further puts forward the research hypothesis to reveal the relationship between variables, and to make a scientific and reasonable explanation of the phenomenon of entrepreneurial activity. In order to validate the hypothesis of this research,we collected the valid data of 433 growing enterprises nationwide by means of questionnaires. The results of this study show that: the previous experience of entrepreneur has a direct impact on entrepreneurial performance, that is,the more abundant previous experience, the better entrepreneurial performance;previous experience has a significant positive impact on internal control, and internal control has a significant positive influence on entrepreneurial performance; In addition, internal control has some mediating effect between previous experience and performance. This study proves that the impact of previous experience on performance is not a simple linear relationship. From the point of view of risk management, previous experience also indirectly affects the performance of start-up firms through the role of internal control. The conclusion of this study complements and clarifies the contradictions existing in current research. At the same time, internal control is introduced into the field of entrepreneurial risk research, which provides a new research idea. From a practical point of view, our research provides a useful reference for how start-up enterprises can effectively utilize the resources of entrepreneurs to control risk effectively,so as to promote entrepreneurship growth.
