Entrepreneurial orientation reflects the company's strategy posture of engaging in higher levels of innovation,risk-taking,and actively defeating competitors.Entrepreneurial orientation has become the core of enterprises' adaptation,competition and development in an increasingly competitive environment.Scholars have begun to get interest in the origin of entrepreneurial orientation.However,the existing research has not paid enough attention to the antecedents of entrepreneurial orientation,and there is little research on the determinants of entrepreneurs' individual level.Therefore,by using listed companies in China GEM 2009-2017 as a research sample,this study analyzes the influence of entrepreneurs' prior experience on entrepreneurial orientation of start-up companies from the perspective of imprint theory.This study analyzes the nature of entrepreneurial orientation from the perspective of imprint theory,demonstrating that entrepreneurial orientation is the main result of entrepreneurs' organizational imprint.Then we propose the process of entrepreneurial orientation generating based on prior experience which is the main source of imprint,so obtaining the logical necessity and importance of study the influence of the entrepreneurs' prior experience on entrepreneurial orientation of start-ups and the moderating effect of opportunity innovativeness and competition intensity.This study starts from the intrinsic properties of entrepreneurs' prior experience and empirically analyzes the influence of breadth and depth of prior experience on entrepreneurial orientation.The results show that the breadth of prior experience of entrepreneurs is positively related to entrepreneurial orientation,and the depth of prior experience is negatively related to entrepreneurial orientation.This study examines the moderating effect of opportunity innovativeness on entrepreneurs' prior experience and entrepreneurial orientation.The results show that the stronger the opportunity innovation is,the greater the positive influence of breadth of prior experience on entrepreneurial orientation will be,and the greater the negative influence of the depth of prior experience will be.In order to further analyze the influence of prior experience on entrepreneurial orientation in different industries,this study further analyzes the moderate role of industry competition intensity.The results show that the higher the industry's competition intensity,the stronger the positive effect of prior experience breadth on entrepreneurial orientation will be,and the weaker the negative effect of prior experience depth on entrepreneurial orientation will be.
