At present,China is experiencing profound social transformation and population structure change.As with most developing countries,China has also experienced the situation of "getting old before getting rich".The problem of old age poverty has become the new focus of population aging and poverty alleviation,especially in the rural elderly poverty problem is more significant.This paper aims to provide a valuable reference for reducing the incidence of poverty among rural elderly groups in China and improving the well-being of elderly people in their later years by measuring the poverty status of rural elderly population in China and analyzing its influencing factors.The central issues of this paper include three aspects:(1)the current situation and basic characteristics of poverty in rural areas of China under the new situation;(2)the influencing factors and their uniqueness of rural elderly groups in multi-dimensional poverty;(3)suggestions on the measures for poverty reduction in the elderly in rural China.First of all,based on the existing research,this paper analyzes the situation of rural elderly population in China under the new situation,and analyzes the structural characteristics of rural poverty by exponential decomposition.Secondly,the author uses the large sample micro-survey data to construct the Probit model.From the three aspects of the individual,the family and the social welfare system,the author analyzes the factors that affect the incidence of poverty in the rural elderly groups and the similarities and differences between the urban and rural elderly.Finally,according to the conclusion of empirical research and practical experience of different places,this paper comes up with some poverty alleviation measures for different dimensions of poverty.The main conclusions are as follows:First,the incidence of multidimensional poverty in rural elderly groups has declined in recent years,especially in extreme poverty.Second,the contribution rate of economic poverty and social poverty in China's rural elderly multi-dimensional poverty is higher,health poverty and psychological poverty contribution rate is relatively low.Thirdly,at the individual level,age,marital status,educational level and poverty in childhood have a significant impact on the occurrence of multidimensional poverty inrural areas.Variables in the family level of the number of children,children's economic support,and the number of visit and variables of social welfare level such as the basic medical insurance status,community service supply situation significantly affected the occurrence of China's rural elderly multi-dimensional poverty.Fourthly,compared with the urban elderly group,the uniqueness of the poverty-stricken people in the rural elderly group in China is that the impact of the family on the economic poverty of the elderly is more obvious.Fifthly,it is found that the safeguard measures such as non-payment pension system,long-term nursing system and community pension service are of great significance to meet the diversified needs of the elderly groups and reduce the multidimensional poverty.
