An Empirical Study On Economic Development And Environmental Quality In Jilin Province

With the continuous development of economy and industrialization,environmental quality problems have become increasingly serious.The debate about whether economic development is the cause of environmental problems or the motivation to solve environmental problems has caused a wave of related research.The representative one is the study of the relationship between environmental quality and economic development based on the environmental EKC model and the coupling relationship model.In this paper,Jilin Province is used as a research area.Based on the literature on the relationship between environmental quality and economic development at home and abroad,this paper summarizes and draws on the relevant treatment methods of the relationship between environmental quality and economic development.At the same time,based on the environmental quality and economic development indicators selected by Jilin Province from 2004 to 2017,the index system is constructed.From the perspective of empirical analysis,the econometric model is used to analyze the relationship between the two.This article starts from the following aspects:First,a preliminary analysis of the relationship between environmental quality and economic development in Jilin Province was carried out by establishing an EKC model.The study found that the environmental quality pressure,response indicators and economic development in Jilin Province do not fully conform to the typical EKC characteristics.It is concluded that although the environmental quality of Jilin Province and the long-term development of the economy are in an uncoordinated development state,Jilin Province has implemented protection and management measures for environmental quality since 2005,and has targeted guidance and service for environmental protection,making Jilin The province effectively avoided the old road of “first pollution after treatment” included in the EKC curve.The second is to establish the coupling relationship model to seek the degree of internal coordination between environmental quality and economic development in Jilin Province.The study found that between 2004 and 2017,the coupling relationship between economy and environment was in a “very uncoupled”—“primary coupling”—“good coupling” development,and the economic and environmental coordination was in a good development.The third is to analyze the degree of correlation between environmental quality and economic development in Jilin Province based on the grey correlation analysis.The analysis shows that the economic development of Jilin Province has a coercive effect on environmental quality.At the same time,environmental quality has a binding effect on economic development.
