Coal is the most important primary energy source in China.Coal mining is a high-risk industry.Safety accidents occur frequently. To reduce the occurrence of safety accidents, relevant national government departments have promulgated a series of coal mine production safety laws and regulations. It has been significantly improved, but there is still a gap compared with the world's major coal-producing countries, and the safety production situation in China's coal mines still needs improvement. The coal industry plays a vital role in China's national life security, economic and social development, and energy supply security.Coal enterprises are responsible for safe production. The unsafe behavior of coal enterprises is not conducive to the sustainable development of coal enterprises, while hindering China's Economic Growth. As the chief person in charge of enterprise operation and management, the CEO of a coal enterprise is fully responsible for the safety governance of the enterprise. However, the personal characteristics of the CEO are different, and different characteristics will affect the decisions they make on enterprise safety governance.Research on the impact of corporate CEO personal characteristics on corporate security governance.First, review and summarize the relevant literature at home and abroad;second, analyze the safety governance status of China's listed coal companies. In terms of governance structure, the largest shareholder of coal enterprises has a higher shareholding ratio, and the proportion of directors with safety and production-related professional backgrounds is too low;In terms of safety production, there are large differences in safety investment among various companies;in terms of operating performance, the coal industry has experienced large fluctuations in profitability and development capacity due to supply-side reforms in the past;and finally,an empirical study on the personal characteristics of coal company CEOs and corporate safety governance. This article selects the four characteristic indicators of CEO age, education, career background, and tenure.Taking 23 listed coal enterprises in 2013-2018 as a sample,16 indicators are selected from the three aspects of governance structure, safety production and operating performance, and factor analysis is used. The method extracts public factors to construct a comprehensive index of safety governance;and uses regression analysis to conduct an empirical study on the impact of CEO personal characteristics of listed coal companies on company's safety governance. The research results show that:(1)the older the CEO's,the more unfavorable to the company's safety governance;(2)the higher the CEO's education level, the better the company's safety governance;(3)the CEO's professional background in production and safety supervision is beneficial to the company's safety governance; The extension of the CEO's term is conducive to company security governance.Based on the research results and combined with the actual situation of the coal industry, this article proposes countermeasures and suggestions from two aspects:perfecting the coal enterprise CEO employment mechanism and improving the coal enterprise CEO safety governance ability. It is hoped that the CEO of the coal enterprise will pay attention to the safety management of the company and ensure that the safety production of the coal enterprise can proceed in a stable and orderly manner.
