At present,the worldwide production of train wheels mainly utilizes the die forging rolled method which has a complex process and requires more molds.The design of the step diagram and the mold drawing,for each work step during the wheel-forming process,is cumbersome with a lot of repetitive work and prone to errors.In order to implement the rapid design of the molds,and improve the design efficiency and quality of the molds with the aid of computer technology,the exploitation of the CAD system for train wheel forging mold has certain practical value for Maanshan Iron and Steel Wheel Company.Firstly,the current train wheel's production equipment and conditions of Maanshan Iron and Steel Wheel Company were introduced,and the advantages and disadvantages of each production line were compared.Additionally,the forming process of the train wheel along with its characteristics and rules were described in detail.The methods and rules for forging billets step diagrams and mold diagrams,designed by the enterprise's design research and development personnel,were summarized.According to the design requirements of the enterprise,the functional requirements of the CAD system for train wheel forging mold were analyzed.On this basis,the overall structural framework of the system was proposed,and the three-dimensional models of the molds at all levels for the train wheels with typical specifications were confirmed to be established using Creo Parametric.Then Pro /TOOLKIT was used for secondary development of the user-defined menu modules to guide the designers to quickly design the new train wheel forging mold program and divide the function of each module of the system.Based on the systematic goals,the functions and operating methods of "Publishing Geometry" and "Copy Geometry" in model data sharing were explained.According to the basic steps and methods of the developing Creo Parametric application programs of Pro/TOOLKIT and Access database,the exploitation of each user-defined menu sub-module in the system was completed under the development environment of Visual Studio2012.The system had the functions of designing forging billets and generating mold drawings,etc.The developed CAD system for train wheel forging mold is simple and convenient to operate.Designers can quickly complete the design of the new train wheel forging billets and molds based on the typical product feature model.This reduces the labor intensity of the designers in some degree,and improves the quality and efficiency in designing the train wheel forming step diagrams and mold diagrams.
