As the Chinese economy shifts to a high-quality development stage,service innovation is increasingly gaining the attention from the academic and business communities.From the perspective of strategic emerging industries,China has pointed out that products provided by the construction industry to the market belong to “services accompanied by physical objects”.It is an inevitable trend for construction companies providing simply goods shift to services.Service innovation is the main way to obtain long-term competitive advantage for construction companies.Due to the diversity and complexity of factors,it has been a hot topic to research the critical success factors of service innovation in construction companies.This study takes service innovation as a theoretical lens to theoretically determine the critical successful factors of service innovation,and provides suggestions for structural adjustment for Chinese construction companies.This study integrated the existed definition of service innovation and the practical characteristics of the construction industry,analyzed the connotation of service innovation,and proposed a three-dimensional understanding of key success factors for Chinese construction companies.At the same time,this study used document analysis,Delphi method,questionnaire survey,factor analysis,and ISM to determine the key success factors for service innovation in Chinese construction companies.the following steps have been taken:(1)Through literature analysis,this research defined the service innovation,and also the critical success factors for service innovation in construction companies.(2)Industry experts were invited to score the key factors,and collected the opinions of the experts with three-round Delphi.(3)Questionnaires were issued in Xi'an and Zhengzhou to gather dates about service innovation success factors(4)The 19 critical success factors were finally screened by principal component analysis in and classified into 5 dimensions factor analysis.(5)Through ISM analysis,this study identified the hierarchical structure among the 19 critical success factors,and identified the direct,intermediate,and in-depth factors affecting the successful implementation of service innovation by construction companies.Finally,taking the construction enterprise as an example,this paper proposes five measures for the service innovation of construction companies and provides management ideas for service innovation in the construction industry.These suggestions can also provide reference for other construction companies that are interested in transforming service innovation.The innovation of this research is embodied in theoretical innovation and method innovation,such as(1)Combining the definition of service innovation and the characteristics of construction enterprises,the connotation of service innovation in construction enterprises is proposed,which can enriches the theoretical connotation of service innovation and provide a theoretical reference for follow-up service innovation research in construction industry;(2)Factor analysis and Interpretative Structural Model were used to determine the critical success factors of service innovation and established the hierarchical relationships of critical success factors in construction companies.
