Since the implementation of the New Rural Policy in 2005,new rural construction has been carried out in full swing across the country.Jiangsu transformed and built 56,000 rural villages in ten years.Due to the backward economic development and large proportion of rural population in the northern part of Jiangsu, the amount of new rural construction is huge.Take Suqian as an example,Suqian will build 700 beautiful villages in the next five years. In such a high-intensity new rural construction boom, new problems have emerged in new rural areas.Due to the pursuit of high speed and high intensity, most of the new rural construction in northern Jiangsu is dominated by the government and ignores the dominant position of farmers, resulting in the inability of residential functions, lack of architectural features, and poor residential flexibility. At the same time, under the background of the a resource-conserving and environmentally friendly society and the country's vigorous advocacy of industrialization, the new rural construction still adopts a mode of extensive construction, resulting in a lot of environmental pollution and waste of resources.Open Building Theory emphasizes the open design of buildings and the development of local conditions. Its core concept is to separate the "support " and the " detachable units " from each other and to achieve the openness of the building, the “support” can be decided by the government and professionals,“etachable units” can adapte to local conditions and encourage residents' participation to achieve buildings' flexibility and suitability. Therefore, this paper tries to introduce the Open Building Theory into the construction of the new countryside in northern Jiangsu Province to solve the problems of poor residential flexibility and neglect of local features, etc. This paper is divided into the following sections:The first chapter is the introduction part, introduces the research origin, object and scope, purpose and significance, methods and framework of the paper, and summarizes the research status of related fields at home and abroad. The second chapter mainly introduces the concept, basic characteristics and space operation system of Open Building Theory.Based on this,it also cites two cases of Open Building Theory practice at home and abroad, and presents the development status of Open Building Theory. The third chapter introduces the geographical background of new rural construction and the type of private housing in northern Jiangsu.Based on the case studies of new countryside, the problems emerging in the construction of new countryside and the needs of villagers are summarized. The fourth chapter mainly combines the Open Building Theory with the new countryside in northern Jiangsu, and analyzes the feasibility of applying the Open Building Theory to the new rural construction in northern Jiangsu. Finally,it cites two cases of Open Open Building Theory in the rural practice and illustrates the overall design principles of Open Building Theory ' application in rural areas in Northern Jiangsu.Chapters 5 and 6 are the core parts of the paper. They explore the application of Open Building Theory in new rural construction from two aspects of space design strategy and technology organization strategy. In terms of spatial design strategies, the design of new rural residential spaces was mainly conducted using methods of zone analysis, section analysis, basic unit analysis and subunit analysis. In the aspect of technical organization strategy,it mainly discusses four aspects: structure selection, material selection, kitchen and toilet syetem, and organization strategy. The seventh chapter is the conclusion part, summarizes the main research results and deficiencies of the paper, and calls for more architectural professionals to participate in the construction of new countryside.
