Inheritance And Innovation Of Urban Waterfront Spaces

Urban waterfront is essential to the city just as water itself.Human needs for urban waterfront have been changed thoroughly as technology grows.Firstly we use water to drink and wash,to fulfill our very basic needs.Then we ask for water transportation,and then for manufacturing.And now,we have spiritual needs,as to live comfortably around water.The changes of needs for water indicate the changes of our understandings to water,and further,to waterfront spaces.This thesis begins with the analysis of the history and functional changes of waterfront and sum up its main property.We propose a method of creating waterfront features by studying successful waterfront feature creating examples of both domestic and abroad.Then,by introducing the history of Huai’an,Jiangsu Province,we discussed the composition and uniqueness of its culture,providing theoretical principle and designing methodology for shaping the features of waterfront in Huai’an.Finally,we come up with an idea of inheritance and innovation of urban waterfront spaces of Huai’an,after analyzing the present situation of Liyunhe River of Huai’an,combined with the conclusions of the context.Then verify this idea with the design plan of the Qingjiangpu section of Liyunhe River.
